How many .50 caliber BMG rounds does it take to break a Samurai sword?
http://youtube.com/watch?v=HO8Ot10hIiA&mode=related&search=

I was amazed, that it was more than 1 and less than 15!

Hardened steel is tough, I'm not shocked at the number of rounds.

how many rounds actually "hit" the blade?  Was not a controlled experiement but a spray and pray event.

What'daya mean less than 15?  That was a good 50 round belt he tore off there.

Only takes 1 round that actually hits to break a sword, especially if using API (Armor Piercing Incendiary).

It only took 1 round to make it useless.

It took 15+ to hit the target.
Just another reason .50's in Ah do not kick enough, period.

Well at any rate, when they show the slow mo, and you see how many rounds came close.
Watch the one round that splits up into like 25+ little parts.
man someone would have been hurt badly by that.

Well, first ya gotta hit it.

Try the same with a .50 BMG sniper rifle.  Answer:  one shot.

Conversely, how many samurai swords does it take to tear up a .50 cal machinegun?  Answer:  All of them.

The rounds fired appeared to be lead, and hardened steel WILL cut lead.

In accordance to the VIDEO PROVIDED, it took 7 rounds.

Japanese swords are seriously overrated. Don't believe the hype.

That was a flex mounted M2 lightly sandbagged on the tripod. To qualify with the M2, as I remember, one requirement was to get a burst on target (and one smaller than an aircraft) at 1000 meters in under 14 rounds. Wasn't all that hard to do with even a flex mounted weapon, especially one mounted to an M113. You also trained to engage moving targets at 900 meters with a flex mounted stationary weapon. Personally, as far as "kick" is concerned I found the M2 to be somewhat boring since even flex mounted there was little actual kick.  Grabe the spades, push the butterfly, gustimate and walk in rounds. The exception to that was firing it without the tripod sandbagged, which was a bad idea and a bit exciting. The M60 on its bipod was far more exciting to shoot.

Actually it looked like it took several in the same spot before it finally failed.

I personally liked the one that the bullet sliced in two

Cept for they would be more agile and manuverable then the armoured knight
not to mention they would have superiour vision
And not all portions of an armored knights body were armored
