After the Grupul 7 Bf-109G2 that I'm less than satisfied with (even though its the one I keep getting compliments on, its the one I'm least happy with), I'm going to make another more "conventional" G2 to go along with it.
In the spring and early summer of 1943, several of the best (either high scoring or talented fliers) ARR Emil pilots were assembled into a composite unit for transition onto the Bf-109G (the ARR never operated the F) and placed in a joint unit with I/Jg 4 at Mizul, called the "Deutsche-Koniglich Rumanische Jagdverband". Given a mix of factory-new and well worn Bf-109G2s, the "Lancing Mickey" insignia of Escadrila 53 (the unit which operated the Hurricane we have in game) and a unique stencil version of the Mihai-Cross were applied to otherwise normally painted Gustavs. Rudders were either left gray or painted white (its not officially confirmed, but suspected that flight leaders and aces were painted white, the rest left mottled), not the normal ARR tri-color.
They began training in April of 1943, and were operational with Jg4 by June. They fought together against the Russians through the summer, but were pulled back for a rest and refit at the end of July 1943. It was decided to rest them around Brasov and Ploesti, where they were based on August 1st. They were credited with downing 7 B-24 Liberators that day for no losses. Sometime thereafter (records are unclear exactly when) the pilots returned to their units and took their "Gheuls" with them. All personnel involved remember a cordial and frindly relationship between the two groups, and several of the veterans of this unit are known to have refused to fight against the Luftwaffe after the coup, and a few others are known to have maneuvered their G6s alongside their new enemies and given the famous "Hals-und-beinbrucke" greeting as a way of saying "its not personal" in the first days after the switch, before the fighting really got nasty.
