Well hes right there wasn't a "nuclear" bomb in WW2, but there were two atomic bombs.

VS.

Make sure to read the part on the nuclear weapon page about the types of bombs, fission VS. fusion.

And what's the differance? Fission or fusion? Both types of reactions are nuclear in nature. Atoms are being split and releasing huge amounts of energy. The only differance is the method used to release that energy. Little Boy and Fat Man were in fact nuclear weapons. Calling them by a different name doesn't change what they really are.

The two bombs used in WWII were "atomic" . Read any book or watch any film thats what they are called. Calling them nukes is like calling them H- bombs. They are the same, but at the same different.

"The original atomic bomb used nuclear fission, in which big atoms (uranium or plutonium) were split into littler ones in a chain reaction, releasing vast amounts of energy. The hydrogen bomb employs nuclear fusion, in which little atoms (various forms of hydrogen) fuse together to make bigger ones (helium), essentially the same process that occurs in the sun."

I believe the use of "nuclear" and "atomic" are more about common usage in language, and not about strict technical differences in the terms.  The use of "atomic" bombs goes back through science fiction and comic books to the 1930's and maybe the 1920's.  So, when fusion bombs came about, they were talked about using the term "nuclear" to differentiate between them and earlier bombs.

Then there are neutron bombs (enhanced radiation weapons) which are often considered a third category, and separate from thermonuclear bombs.

Its the kinds of distinctions that are made when you are going before Congress for appropriation funding hearings.

Fat Man -  Spontaneous Fission (because of the Polonium core)
Little Boy - Fission (not Spontaneous, as this was a Uranium based weapon)

They were both Fission.

If the B-29 ever does start getting developed it can be updated on the sticky.  If this sticky is never created we'll take it as a hint that the B-29 with n00k is currently in developement.

Thank you.

EDIT - And that we will expect the B-29 and nOOk in 2 weeks.  Or when the Combat Tour is released, which ever comes first.
