Hey, have you checked out Axis and Allies?
« on: May 26, 2007, 01:58:15 PM »
I went in there for the first time last night.

It was pretty cool!  Way different than LW MA.  First, the terrain was totally different.  Instead of green, green, and more green, we had a nice winter terrain with pine trees.
Then there was alot of weather.  Lots of low clouds, fog effects, etc.  It made for a more challenging environment to find targets and fight.

The burn multiplier is cranked down, so you can get alot more flight out of your gallon of gas.

The radar isn't the auto update thing, but actually updates every few minutes, so you really have to visually search for your targets (in the weather too, so the potential to get jumped is much higher if your SA isn't up).

The icon range appeared to be set much shorter.  Is that dot a friendly, or enemy?  You won't know until you're close enough where running could be iffy.

The towns have real names.  The maps look more authentic.

Lower number of players and a set planeset mean no spit vs. hurricane fights, but rather more authentic fights.  I took up a P-38L, a plane I get massacred in in the MA.  Also, the players seemed more into a good fight, and not just scoring HO kills, except for the d---khead that popped in just long enough to vulch my plane on the runway while I put my son to bed.

If you haven't checked out this arena, give it a try.  It's alot different, and I enjoyed it alot more that the typical LW MA horde HO-fest.

See ya,

AvA is cool.  Nice change from the MA.  Different terrains, different maps, and like you said, no P51s shooting down B17s.

The setup changes every Friday (usually...), something different each week. Terrains are the same as are being used in the Special Events Arena - you should check them out, lots of fun to be had there too, see the calendar  at the top of this BB or ahevents.org for more details about those.

Good to hear you have liked the AvA. :)

Got it shifty.

You know, the more I think about it, the more surprised I am that the AvA arena isn't the most popular.

Granted, I'm a total new guy here, two months in almost, but I'm already bored with the LW MA.  I mean, sure it's fun to up your favorite plane and get into the huge furballs with a hundred other guys, but it totally offends my sensibilities to be in a P-51 dogfighting a D-Hog or Spit or something.

So many of the problems on the bbs right now are addressed in the AvA arena.

You don't have the ENY problems that I noticed because the plane set is fixed.

You have much much larger maps.

I've never seen the CAP reached in there.

The scores in AvA stay in AvA.

Plenty of 1 v 1 fights or something similar.

Weekly map changes.

There, I solved all the problems of the first 10 threads on the first page practically, all on my own!

I sincerely hope to be spending more time there and will definately be there with the Pacific map coming up.

Don't get me wrong, LW MA is fun, but let's be honest.  Really playing in there is like playing some FPS but with planes instead of people.

I hear you. I will fly the AVA over the MA's any day, because I love the historic matchups. Action sales, and the MA is where the action is, but keep plugging with us in the AVA we're trying to get a commited following going.

Like the EW and MW I would fly there much more frequently if there were enough to find a fight.  Kind wish some squads would do AvA nights more often.

We're trying rabid. Check out Tuesdays and Thursdays nights, usually they have the most numbers. See if you can talk your squad into participating.:aok

glad you found the place and enjoyed it.  I'll add more to your list of why I prefer AVA to any of the  MA's and it's simple.  99% of the regulars in there have class.  Ya some are chest thumpers and trash talkers but they're the ones that with a pm will meet you in the TA and show you how they smoked your butt.

Look forward to seeing you there

Only time Iv seen 100+ people in the AvA/CT was when the MA server went down. It was the worst time in there EVER. All you need is two people in there for a great fight. some times we get 20+ on squad nights even then you might get a HO or two, but Id rather fly AvA then the MAs any day of the week. The fights are alot better and if you fly in there as most of us you know who your fighting in the first few seconds without having to ask.
