Seriously, do you think at some point, HTC should take the He 162 (Volksjager, Salamander, the name of this plane has bean in dispute)into consideration?

It would be interesting...but IRL the plane was inherently VERY unstable and a real handful to fly, especially to lesser pilots.

1 Gruppe / JG 1 went operational with He-162s in Feb 45, and additional aircraft were delivered and operational in 2 Gruppe / JG 1 as well.  They conducted operations against allied forces up through Apr 45, and 3 of their pilots are credited with kills in the He-162.

It'd be an interesting perk ride, but I'd rather have the Meteor myself.

He162s were shot down in combat in the closing days of the war. I believe some spitfires took a couple down. So that settles that.

Also, I read that there was a third group of Hitler Youth trained pilots (if you can call it "trained"!!) that received He162s, but haven't been able to substantiate this because the records were all being destroyed across Germany as the end was approaching.

EDIT: As for seeing them in-game, I think they'd be pretty handicapped, both in armament and range and durability, and perhaps in tolerance (Gs and speed). If we had them in-game it might be a "oh that's cool" kind of perk plane, but wouldn't be as capable a killing machine as the Meteor Mk.III (for example).

The wings didnt rip off because of the planes design, it probably was the best designed plane of the war, its becuase the factory that made the glue for the wooden wings was destroyed, so the German engineers had to use a highly acidic and weaker glue.
"The first flight of the He 162V1, by test pilot Gotthard Peter, was fairly successful, but during a high-speed run at 840 km/h the highly acidic replacement glue (the Tego-Film adhesive originally specified was no longer available as the sole factory producing it had been bombed) holding the nose gear cover on failed and the pilot was forced to land."

It was a great plane, rushed into service, without time to work out the problems, but like most German plane of its status, too few and too late to change the war or get it put on this game.:rofl :mad:

If the Tego-Film factory wasnt bombed it probably would have been much more durable!

Yeah, I know the wings fell off because of the glue, but they fell off!

just to say, the Luftwaffe had about 150 Ta 152 planes built by the end of WW2 and 170 He 162s built by the end of the war, about half the Ta 152s were lost to bombing and there are no confirmed reports of allies being attacked by Ta 152, while their is reports of He 162s and the pilots had kills.
The He 162 pilots scored their kills while still in training!
The He 162s problems were more on ther lines of stability rather than failure although the planes wings did fail alot during testing, they solved the problem by re-stressing and redesigning the wing structure for more strength.

Me-163, Me-262, and Ar-234. First production rocket-powered interceptor EVER, first production jet fighter EVER, and first production jet bomber EVER respectively. Does that not justify its existance in this game?

no, its more of the amount of planes built, if only 1 Ar 234 was built it probably wouldnt be in here but 210 were built, thats significant for the time it was in combat and the cost to produce the bomber, the 163 is a good for intercepting bombers as a desperate defense and the Me 262 was produced in a large amount compared to the other two.

170 He 162s were built, they were rushed into production and saw combat, they had kills, it wasnt poorly designed, there was not enough time to properly adjust it so it could show its potntial as the great plane it was.

Oh yeah, the He 162 had a ejection seat!!! It would need it so the pilot didnt get sucked into the engine and come out as Taco meat on the other side!:D :rofl
