This isn't a time for blaming. This is a time for prayer (if your religious) or hope (that they correct the problem).  Cold war is over guys, let's not point fingers.

True, -- it blew the Russian power supply in all three computers.

It turns out the Russians forgot to bring surge suppressors into space. Now, they have to order some from Radio Shack (along with power supplies) and get them into orbit before our space shuttle can safely undock (without tilting the space station out of orbit).

I was just going to say, it's unfortunate that the press I've seen so far continues to refer to them as 'Russian computers'.  Do they do it on purpose, so a Mindless John Q. Public American Citizen (such as myself) can scan the headline and blame the Evil Russians for incompetance and once again feel Superior to the rest of the world?  A computer is a computer, and on an 'International' Space Station it shouldn't matter who's doing what or who's responsible for what.  I'd like to think the press would be quick to headline 'U.S. computers' if that were the case......finger pointing is one of the great American Pastimes, as long as we're not pointing at ourselves.

Really, it's not a big problem. The flywheels (gyrodin) can be stopped and station orientation will be kept in old way, with RCS. So, the whole situation is not danger, but just annoying.

Imagine what static charges can build up in vacuum in such a complicated system with a dozen of solar panels. Guys simply forgot to "ground themselves" (remember all that 1980s expansion card manuals?) and sent many kiloVolts into station's electrical grid. This may be a ground control fault as well... Sorry, but Americans still can't maintain a 24/7 ground control communication, that Soviet space stations had since mid-1980s via Looch (Ray) sattelites. IIRC since Salyut-7, but I may be mistaken, at that time we had two manned space stations orbiting.

Now it's no use finding who's to blame, it's time to give some spare parts to Russians and try to survive without coffee-makers until landing :D

Star City = "Zvezdniy Gorodok"? LOL "Gorodok" means more like a "small town". I thought that guys doing an EVA job were from American Shuttle crew, it's quite reasonable, they are right from below and didn't suffer from long-time zero-G, so they can definetly perform better in space-suits then guys who stayed up there for months. And girls... AAA!!! it's all because of a woman on board!!!! :D

About all that "cans" - we had a Mongolian cosmonaut at Salyut-6. As well as Cubans, Canadians, etc, we only didn't have Africans up there (or was there an Ethiopian guy?), and they all did their job. The first guy from the US who stayed at Mir for several months was a real trouble :( People say that Russian crew members had to massage his face and lock him away for some time - he behaved like a freshmen girl, always scared, hating the food (that was selected according to his own choice), hysterical and crying like "let me out of here!!!".... :(

Well, do you have a decent agent who will work for me for some decent money, so i'll not have to live in a ****hole with a "roommate", but have at least a 3-room flat for myself 25min from center of a megapolis like I what i got here in our big village called Moscow?

If facts make you guys laugh - I can only pity you.

Here in this thread I am answering your questions. In fact - Estel is answering them. he's closer to the sources, I am just reasoning.

What made you so happy in my posts? That USSR had two manned space stations in 1986-87? That we had a relay-sattelite to provide 24/7 ground control communication?

Exaggeration, hysteria, and blowing all bad news out of proportion are also of the great American Pastimes. Oh noes! We crashed the computers, WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!

Same **** here in "democratic" Russia now :(

When in late-90s Russian Mir crew crashed a cargo ship into one of the docked modules during manual docking, unpressurising the station, they only afforded one short "unprintable" word. This guys have no nerves.

Russian approach: "don't worry, we'll fix it" (razberyomsya!)

Well, I got a 1.5L bubble of strong beer from a fridge, opened a pack of smoked Armenian cheese, brought a pack of small cigars, lighter and an ash-tray, prepared for fun, and NOONE else wants to persuade me into working as a clown in the US!?

I am disappointed :( You guys ruin my friday night! For the first time in several weeks I am alone and can afford a good, encouraging flame-war!
