Until the Panther, yes.

The Germans saw the T-34 and made the Panther to take the T-34 ideas and do better with them.

In a few ways the panther was better (OPTICS)... Untill the T34/85, and the T44/100 appeared.. Both were far better tanks than the Panther... Faster, lower Gpress, and far more reliable... The one thing the germans never duplicated, was the one thing that they needed most... A powerful, simple, aircooled, deisel engine for their tanks.... If this game used reliability, and likelyhood of breakdown, as factors in modeling of vehicles... Many people wouldn't like the german tanks so much...

And thats not speaking of the JS2 and 3.... (whole nother topic)

Its my understanding that the primary problem didnt extend from reliability as much as complexity or over engineering.

while most of the allied tanks were relatively simple in design and often easily repaired  by their crews in the field. the German tanks were designed so complex that when they did break down or were damaged their crews often had to abandon them in position because they could not do adequate field repairs on them.

Kinda like todays cars.
In the quest for efficiency they have become so over engineered that nobody short of a technician can even do a simple tune up on a car these days

You are absolutely right, they were overengineered, and overly complex... But if it breaks down in the field, when ya need it most... Or you can't depend on the equipment... Then it's UNreliable...
I know this is an excercize in semantics, but UNRELIABLE is simple enough..
For whatever reason...

If ya boil it down, I'm sure you agree...

And the Russians returned that favor by stealing Jet Propulsion.
