Clipboard Wish List...and more
« on: June 20, 2007, 05:03:05 PM »
1) Get rid of the top of the clipboard (the clip itself)...its useless eye candy, takes up screen space and serves no purpose. A thin command bar is all that is needed to drag the board. Put a diagonal expansion-contraction grip on the lower right corner of the board. Give the option to scale-not scale (aspect) the map within the board when the board is expanded or contracted.

2) Get rid of the whole clipboard format entirely. Shrink the frame size down and switch to a tabbed interface.

3) Create a hot key shortcut for the E6B

4) Create a transparent window like the comm or damage window for the E6B info. Make it a stand alone window.

5) Create a transparent window like the comm or damage window for the map. Make it a stand alone window.

6) Fix the roster so if you right click ~ click score on a player, and then close the score it reverts back to the roster remembering the sort style-order and the placeholder you were at.

7) Change or give the player the option to change the icon representing his position on the map. Anything but the cartoon plane.

8) Create a transparent menu-tab interface replicating all of the clipboard functions that can be placed either at the top, bottom or sides of the view frame that gives access to the various options, choices and commands. A thin menu bar taking up a height or width of 16 or 32 pixels would be more than ample.

9) Enable the mousewheel to zoom in and out on the map, or...

10) Enable the mousewheel to enlarge or shrink the clipboard.

11) Remember the users selection on the TaskForce submenu whether he last selected loop or patrol. The perpetual default is Loop.

12) Create a prompt option in the hanger for score type on fighter/attack aircraft so that a window similar to the window that pops up when a mission takes off displays prior spawning out. The user can enable/disable the prompt.

13) Give a context sensitive option on the map to max zoom the map at the click point...for task force gunners.

14) Get rid of the clipboard minimize-restore animation. Just 'show' it or 'hide' it.

15) Finally...The clipboard would be an ideal start for multiple monitor support. The entire clipboard apparatus could be moved off the main viewing screen.

Other:

Put flap gauges or indicators on the dash of all aircraft. Some such as the P38 rely on a visual check of a cartoon lever, and others have no cartoon lever at all. Standardize the flap indicator.

Create background sounds for the ships in a task force. Ships engines and the general hum of a carrier is totally absent when in a gun.

Show gun smoke and muzzle flash when the big guns are firing on nearby ship such as the cruiser. As it is now you only see this on an adjacent gun when manning a gun.

Show the cruiser and all ships burning if they are damaged.

Pitch and roll the ships...the millpond flat sea is not realistic.

When the task force turns, roll the carrier deck over on an angle.

Give three speed choices for the task forces: slow, medium and fast

Senior players with a low rank should be allowed to suspend flight operations on a carrier for stealth attacks.

Allow players to vote for the player that has task force control. Control can expire in a set time frame and relinquished or re-voted.

Create new maps for the MA; larger more geographically realistic maps.  The best and only realistic map is the archipelago style map.

The water needs more realism: reflection, motion, white caps, splashes...

Skin existing maps with different skins such as desert or winter.

Create or provide the ability to create a main squad with sub-wings. As it is now you can only create multiple independent squads.

Create a method to record a macro within the game.

FINALLY:

Lock down these message boards or certain sub-forums to only Paying Members. Non-Paying members should have limited access to these forums.

============================

I am positive that the typical board trolls will sift through this spout their non-constructive and insulting comments....you know who you are. You look at the number of posts the user has made to the forums and tell the 'nooby' to basically shut up and be quiet.

Please refrain from such ridiculous antics and instead for a change, make a constructive argument....try...

The clipboard is something that's supposed to add at least a bit of immersion to the game. Even though it contains unrealistic elements, a pilot would more likely carry a clipboard in his plane than have a HUD on his eyeballs.

Creating new maps is totally up to the player base. You make a map to the HTC standards, they'll put it in the game. The trade is either HTC works on maps or HTC works on game development...which is what seems to make up at least 95% of your post.

I've never seen a plane without a flap position indicator other than the Spitfires. Look harder as the gauges on the P-38 are hard to read. The Spitfire flap indicator is what was really in the aircraft, except I don't think it said Up and Down on it.

Spies can already usurp control of a carrier to keep it straight for enemy bombers; why let them bar operations?

I don't like the "suspend operations" or voting for control ideas at all. They add nothing, and lend themselves to abuse.

I don't see what changing the clipboard interface would add, except another even more unrealistic thing, even though you mention realism with regards to other things.

9 and 14 are decent ideas, but I don't see the payoff or improvement from any of the others.

P-38 does have a flap indicator dial.

Um I really didn't like the last comments to say. Only allow paying subscribers to get better benefits over non paying. Come one you guys stop complaining about the non subscribers, you get to play with hundreds of people while we play is small crappy rooms with really unrealistic settings most of the time. Its not like all of us our sqeakers or little unmature kids.

However I do like the ship thing about it tilting on turns and it bouncing up and down like it was on waves.

The speed option for Task groups would be actually a good idea. Get in front of a base and the commander puts the task group from fast to slow which would allow you to have more accurate gun fire on the base, more time to launch LVTs, and more time to launch close air attacks. The few disadvantages would be slower speed allows there guns, fighters, bombers, and PTs to get a better chance of destroying your CV. If you look at it though its a pretty even/even thing.

Number 3, 7, 9, and 11 to me are good options.

I've got throttle mapped to my mouse wheel.  You can already use the bracket keys to zoom the map in and out or use the +/- on the top right of the clipboard to make the entire clipboard bigger or smaller.

Some of the other ideas are good though.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

"Give three speed choices for the task forces: slow, medium and fast"

I like this one.:aok

As it is now, I can readily and easily sink a CV from 8K in B26's no matter how hard of a turn the CV takes, or what direction it's heading. This variable speed idea might throw in more of a challenge for us LEVEL bomb CV killers.

Actually Task groups need 4 speeds. Fast (current tg speed) Medium (fleet oilers and supply ships can keep up) Slow and Dead Stop!

Locking down the forums would be next to impossible.
