So where have you guys been and what cool things have you done in the service???

Really?  I retired from the Coast Guard in Nov '98, I was stationed at the ELC at the time :)  Was working up in the bouy section branch, doing part time at the mail room and of course, standing watches over at the new building.  What a way to waste the end of a glorious career :(  Boy do I regret being married to the ***** I had at the time!

So where were you working?

I was in the new O2L lab that came down from EECEN when it closed. I also stood watch over in the Ordinance Rd building for a while until I got on the unit Color Guard. That got me out of that stupid watch.

Nah, was being a bit cynical fella.......for ages we were in and out of the fjords etc........which btw is absolutely beautiful, especially in the midnight sun season.......but we were always there.........hence refering to the Glamorgan as the Norway Guardship........

To all those who currently serve or are retired.  Thank you

I missed my chance and kick myself for not doing it.  I had a guard slot and passed it up.  Why? I dont know.  I was partying it up civilian flying thinking that was my ticket.  It all worked out in the end.  I love instructing and torturing Military Pilots when they try to transfer their ratings to civilian types.  Its fun to watch B-52, B-1 and heavy transport pilots flare a C-206 at 40 feet in the air with the stall warning horn going off!

True story.  Military pilot has 6000 hrs in C-130 needing to get a check out in a C-206 so he can take his exam for civilian tickets.

Me:  You are high and too slow go around please.
Student:  why I have 40 feet on the altimeter.
Me:  Right and I rather not die in those 40 feet.  Plus you forgot your gear.
