OK, after running aquamark and the other program just fine I fired up aces high.....and it ran {offline). took out sherman and flew spitty just fine {puzzled}. Rebooted system and went to run AH...crash {but to desk top}. Went to run aquamark and got...

D3D ERROR (D3DERR not available 1012)

Go to reload aquamark and it said something about resetting video/sound to default...said yes and nada...

rebooted, went to run Aquamark 1st...got same "reset to default" and then aquamark and other benchmark ran fine...and so did AH. This repeats...if I run AH 1st it crashes...if I run aquamark then AH is fine????

Any diagnostics I can run Skuzzy that might help you help me with this? Is this a direct X problem, video memory problem, ram issue....walked in front of a herd of blackcats and bulldozed the hall of mirrors problem??????

OK I swapped out the memory for 2 gig of PC8500 (1066)....same thing so its not the RAM...guess I'll run directX diagnostic tomorrow and post it....

So, its not the Mobo, not the RAM, and increasingly sounds like no a virus anymore, and your fairly sure it aint the video card. It sounds more like it could be a configuration issue? Have you tried the all the usual 'fixes' like turning down the acceleration on your sound, dual-core patches (if applicable), got the latest mobo BIOS? got the latest chipset drivers?, got the latest vid and sound drivers? etc etc?

Aces high ran just fine on the box I wiped...which was reporting a bad drive. I'm not sure the card itself is the issue since the game ran fine on original buildout and actually runs fine with the "fix". If I run anything else I'm fine, so something is "conflicting" with AH...or AH has a problem with something. For now I'm assuming AH is simply pointing out a problem. D3DERR is directX related. I'm gonna redo the VC drivers and check my directX.

Could be a corrupt video driver, perhaps? Try driver cleaner then reinstall it?

Include the top 1/3 or so, it should include video and sound hardware, but once it starts going into the unhelpful stuff (usually after sound devices) you can cut all of that out.

Thanks, I wiped and reloaded the drivers in safe mode and everything worked 1st time thru. My original load was the zeropoint 84.66 (which always have worked well for me). I have the 93.72 (I think) since thats what I had available on the box. Aquamarked at 120,000+...AH loaded fine (1st)...we shall see.

Original problem had no AH errors. Box still doesnt "Feel" right. The "windows sound" on boot is choppy and I can see just a hint of "flicker" at times. But at least AH runs again:).....

I never trusted zeropoint drivers. Didn't like 'em. That's just me, though

Problems here are deeper. I just tried reloading some of my business app's and sequel server wont load. This machine hasnt touched my network or seen the internet before it had a firewall (comodo) and AV (AVG). It has just utilites (all from trusted sources) XP and AH. It has been exposed to a flash drive and my X-52 and logitech cam....

I'm certainly not a guru but i've built well over a hundred boxes and never seen anything like this. PS is good, memory is good, MB is new Drive was formatted and OS is licensed MS original material. All updates were manual and supervised. Every program I own is licensed original on original media...all are programs I've owned ran/installed repeatedly for years. I am clueless on this....but I can sit down at the keyboard and "know" this system isnt right from the moment it boots and no AV/malware/active scan can find a thing but I have repeated outbound queries to my now nonexistant (to this box) router...which its never been plugged into.

Shared interrupts? Usually this only gets ugly when the interrupts are being shared with a sound card. But the stutturing sort of points in that direction.

Skuzzy, I'm way out of my depth on this one. I've got open ports (1201,1029) that both point to RAT's...but I cant find a thing. I'm going thru the processes ports and autoruns line by line....

Latest oddity is that CA's online scanner stopped mid run on same file twice. I had this thing stop trend micro cold as well. Kapersky finds stuff that prompts warnings etc but cant identify a source. Any diagnostics I could run that would trace source of a shared interupt...what would I use to show current interupts?

As I said this is out of my depth. My whole business (I'm a recruiter) is basically PC based. Company I used to own got up to 78 workstations so I got pretty decent with Novell, NT Citrix and most basic stuff...but this is just beyond my scope. I'll play with it for a day or two but then I'll Fdisk the whole darn house and start over:).....problem is if "it" is in my files and backups etc I need to find it to fix it....

So far my laptop works fine?

Hi Humble, if you want to check your irq's, got to my computer, right click, properties, hardware, device manager, open up the bit you want to check (ie , sound card etc) right click and its under resources............also, have you overclocked your video card at all, as it sounds like aquamark is resetting something (allowing ah to run) then if you run it without whatever it is being reset, its crashing?

I was't clear, what I was asking is if there is a way to determinw what is/has changed the interupts. XP actually refused microsofts own systemlive and turned it off:). I actually Fbombed the whole thing one more time and loaded it all with a registry interface...basically anything coming or going passes thru this and I can tag each process in the system. No question something is there since I'm getting svchost "attacks" on every executable from somewhere. For now I just shut em all down and ran logs on each "phase" of build out. I've got iso images of everything thru both microsoft OS and linux so I can "rebuild" the whole thing in 20 min or so if it blows up again. I just reset it back as a XP/Vista/Ubuntu load with a seperate data HD. The iso's are on each OS "drive", the network storage, a seperate external drive that runs thru a seperate "mini OS" {nomad} and a copy stored on the net. If it blows up I'm going back to pen and paper and flying kites........
