Looking on the net AW on genie was $3 in late 93, AW was on AOL before Win95 came out. I started briefly in the $3 timeframe and was there almost from day one on AOL. I vaguely remember some type of premium but it wasnt anywhere near the $3/hr.

Yes, there was a premium. I have a better 'mark' too look back on (was getting divorced during the move to AOL/Compuserve). I was Kesmai's head trainer from '93 until just before closing. I got the word to move to AOL/Compuserve at the '95 convention. The expansion of the product (free play and Gamestorm) were announced to employees at the '96 convention. Btw, '93 was when AW was accessable via Cris.com It was the 2nd coming of the "10,000 Dweebs" (the 1st coming was the release of Svga AW :D).

You are 100% correct.

In early 1995 AW was in closed beta on AOL.
In mid 1995 AW was in open Beta and the Brewster Buffalos were formed.
In 1996 AW went public at an hourly premium. (edit: $2.00/hr)
I think in 1997 it went to Gamestorm.

I was involved with the closed Beta as "Eagle" when it went open I lost that name and NHawk (Night Hawk) was born.

(Edit: A side note... As the forum leader of Gamestorm's Furball discussion group, Ken "Yoj" Williams was probably the most visible of the Brewster Buffalos.)

Most of the people you meet in life are like slinkies. Pretty much useless, but still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

I remember AW on AOL being free in 1997, wasn't until early 1998 when it went to $2.00 an hour.

I don't remember a Big-T but we did have a Tex.  Worro was the CO of the squad.  It was an all cop squad and their immediate family.  I remember the hundreds of times having to defend the name after accusations that we were racist, which was entirely unfounded as we had whites, blacks, hispanics, italian, irish, and jewish members of the squad.  It was just a name as cops were referred to as "Blue Knights" and the squad was founded by members in the south and they took the name "Confederate", not even thinking about the ramifications of the name.

That reminds me of PUMAR, a Scotish man who would consistently hunt down Doody and RuAmL and kill them with a mosquito or a Vader (A-26).  It was awesome to hear em whine about it.  He had a macro along the lines of "Killed by a Haggis Basher".

Big-T, BigR, kitty, were the Mighty Fluff or something of the sort.......

flew FR arena, flew P38s, and some others I think from the Nomad's flew with them as well........

another squad that came along somewhere in that 95/96 time was the Skulls...um Whels, Pancake, runway, Bama, Egger ( some of the Damned members had helped join up and form this squad then split away ),  and formed another squd well Bama and Egger did......

have not seen or heard from Bama in a long time,

whels went  to the ACCS then he was in the MOL here, then finally joined us in the Damned......

Snowman had formed the Eagles squadrons  for FR & RR with CrazyHorse COing the RR division and  Snowman COing the FR squad ( was 3 squads total as one  )

remeber Lace,  have not seen or heard from her in years........ nor have seen our Damned Kanth around in a long time, or Sassie....or Sally.....used to be a good bit of women/female players....... anyone remeber Mutha or Dana ??? ( Mutha and Dana were not female players btw.just some very good flyers )

you all know we could talk about his subject for years and never get it all down on paper......

"When one considers just what they should say to a new pilot who is logging in Aces High, the mind becomes confused in the complex maze of info it is necessary for the new player to know. All of it is important; most of it vital; and all of it just too much for one brain to absorb in 1-2 lessons" TC
