I suspect that, if you could poll people who have been playing these games for more than a few years, most would agree with this.  The strategery mechanics and strategies can be grasped fairly quickly, and the formulas for winning the war have been posted on these boards frequently.  But what holds people's attention - year after year - is the challenge of attempting to master air combat.

It's all in how you interpret what was written. If you want to interpret it that way so be it. I can't control that.

LTARsqrl got it, as did a few others. But then others read it another way.

And if you are going to quote me, please don't paraphrase. Especially when you quote just enough out of context to fit your needs.

The full quote is...
It was merely intended to encourage players to learn all aspects of the game. And was prompted when I saw several new players flying around aimlessly in an area that had no enemies in it and they asked where the enemy was.

If you enjoy furballing...by all means enjoy it!

But a new player should be aware that there are other aspects of the game, learn them and then make a decision on how they want to play.

Here is another full quote:

AH is not just an airborne shoot-em-up. Learn the strategic aspects of the game. Just flying around aimlessly, looking to kill anyone not on your side is pointless, not to mention pretty boring after a while. Know who controls what base or airfield. Keep track of what resources have been hit or are still functioning at any base or zone in your immediate operating area. Look at the maps and try to understand why taking and holding a certain base is beneficial or even critical in some instances and less so in others. There is alot involved if you take the time to look for it and understand it. It will increase your enjoyment of the game tremendously.

OK I give up...I'll retract that entire statement...

AH is just an airborne shoot-em-up.

Don't learn the strategic aspects of the game. There are none.

Flying around aimlessly, looking to kill anyone not on your side is fun and you'll never get bored.

Don't pay attention to who controls what base or airfield. And don't keep track of what resources have been hit or are still functioning at any base or zone in your immediate operating area. Land anywhere!

Don't look at the maps. There is no reason that taking and holding a certain base is beneficial or even critical.

There's nothing involved in this game, so don't take the time to look for it and understand it.

Nothing will increase your enjoyment of the game.

Is everyone satisfied now?

Granted Toad and I think very alike when it comes to this game, but the above statement is so blantanly implying ...

"If the purpose of your flying around does not have some sort of strategic aspect/goal and your are just flying around looking to kill anyone ... not on your side ... then what you are doing is pointless and boring."

So no ... It's not just Toad ... Hazzer and Mash got it too.

Well, like I said... When a few new players were 3 sectors away from any action, the "flying around aimlessly" came into play. If that's not flying around aimlessly I don't know what is.

I've NEVER bashed furballers. Ever. Look at the maps I've done and every one of them has an area for furballers. Whether it get's used for that or not is not something I can control.

And how we were to know any of that from your original statement ?

Could they not have been instructed to look at the map and find the area with the most amount of red dots and go there looking for a fight ?

The simple answer is a harsh one.

Stop reading things into what people say.

And they were instructed where the fights were.

But I still feel that statement is good general advice. Every one of us has played on both sides of the fence. Then at some point we decided to stay on one side or the other. Neither one is any better than the other. But it is still benificial to learn all aspects of the game. Doing that and understanding what is going on does increase one's enjoyment of the game.

People will NEVER stop "reading things" into what was written.

It is the responsibility of the writer to provide the details and the right amount of details to prevent the reader into "reading things" that were not intended.

Toad and I didn't discuss this on the phone and then decide to post. We both read it separately (as did a few others) and surmized the EXACT same thing.

You threw in a cheap shot at what others enjoy doing (flying around looking to kill anyone not on your side) and you got called on it ... sorry.

NHawk, so from now on only type what you mean, leaving anything open ended will only bring the naysayers out from under their rocks to quickly jump down your throat, and ignite a flame fest.....

Sometime I think those that post here only read 1 word in 3 and make a guess at the others

Well it was never intended as a cheap shot or any other kind of a shot. If it was taken that way I apologize.

Actually, the one and only time I've been sensored here was the one time I typed exactly what I meant. ;)

I submit this:

I think most noobs grasp the strategic aspects and all of the things other than flying fighters (GV's, buffs, etc.) first.  Why?  Flying and fighting and winning is hard.  On the other hand a relative noob can jump in a buff or a GV and actually go out and kill someone or something and feel good about themselves and about contributing to their country.

NHawk, I know you meant well by your post but if you really wanted to help out a noob then your post should have been directed at the hardest part of the game for them to grasp, not the part that they are naturally going to be inclined toward.

In the spirit of bringing up a new generation of fight-worthy opponents a summary of ACM and SA would have served the population better.

Just my $.02

[EDIT]  And if this WAS intended for noobs it would have been better off posted in the Help and Training forum.
