Question....
« on: June 29, 2007, 08:33:29 PM »
Hi Guys,

Starting sometime in July, I'm going to be doing a devotional email study of the Gospel According to Matthew by email for the members of my congregation. Does anyone want me to start a thread in the O' Club and post the study here as well? I recognize it would be open season and anyone could post in it, but I've gotten used to that.

Also a request for those of you who pray: some beloved friends of ours - Berti and Jenny - are leaving next week to begin mission work in a mostly Muslim country. He is a native of that country who was converted in the USA and just completed seminary training and ordination, his wife is an American. The work they will be embarking on is very dangerous - to use one of Berti's lines, "about the only thing we grow and export where I come from are terrorists and organized crime" They desperately want to be used in changing that state of affairs for the better, and unlike many missionaries to Islamic world, they plan to operate entirely "above board" which will obviously raise their profile. They are both much braver Christians than I. Please pray for them, especially Jenny who as a young American woman from the south will be making a very difficult transition, and if you might be interested in helping them out financially, please contact me.

This is gonna sound pretty bad Seagoon, but what your friends are doing may be close to suicide depending on which muslim country they're going to.  If they want to be martyrs then that's their choice but I hope they have their life back home tied up in a nice little package for when they're kidnapped, tortured, and beheaded.

Regarding the study, you might want to ask Skuzzy first.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

I feel the same about it.   I understand the message, but not the actions in today's world.

Ya know, that's really in poor taste.

Libya and Syria should be pretty safe.
Iran might be in different times but not now.
Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Afghanistan, forget about it.
Egypt hmmm, guessing at 50/50.

Understatement of the year. That's what happens when you get a fresh crop of squeakers.

Seagoon, I think the religious debate would be very educational. But as eagl said, it's ultimately Skuzzy's call.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

I'm sorry. I should have said that I thought what they were doing was suicidal, as other did. Although, when I think of suicide, I find it only 'natural' to wander into Darwinisms. My bad.

While it may ultimately lead to their deaths, what they are doing isn't with a suicidal mindset. They are merely following their calling, dangerous though it may be. They believe that they have been called by God to go as missionaries to a Muslim country to spread the Gospel to those that have not heard it. :)

And.....as far as I am concerned, apology accepted sir. :)

Suicide is normally an act of depression. In some cases it is an act of duty as in Japan and WW2.

What you were commenting on was a couples act to follow their own duty as they see it. While it may result in injury or death, it is not intended to be suicide. Think before you type as humor is not always called for and the same goes for political statements.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
