"Right now we only have fuel tank fires"
Yeah thats what i thought, i didnt know if that was a fuel tank or engine fire... but sence you blow up that makes sence that it is fuel tank. Thats why i suggested the extinguisher thinking it was a engine fire.
Right now i do not have any info on the extinguishers from that era but im sure i could research it if needed.
Yes it would be one time use extinguisher, Also diving to try and put it out would be awsome, and risky... to fast of dive then pull up would result in loss of wings! lol
If anyone has seen the movie "Memphis Belle" you will see that they tryed to use extinguisher and it failed so they put it into a steep dive and put the fire out. (I relise its a movie but im sure they did things like that)
Also i imagine if your engine catches fire, even if you do succeed in putting the fire out, the engine is still toast, it just prevents the fire from buring your wing off, and buring into the fuel tank.
Yes fuel tank fires would be more rare then engine because the surface is either fabric or thin gauge aluminum and it would be hard to spark it?
Oh and not all planes would have this option... only the ones that really used it. i think only the bombers were the ones equipped with it, defenatly the B17s had it.
Any more suggestions or comments would be apreshiated.
