We also occasionally see military jets roll in and out for maintenance, including the B-2 Bomber, several F/A-18s, and lots of T-38's.

We also see our fair share of Warbirds, and have seen in the past 12 months a B24, a B17, a B25, and a few Mustangs. They apparently come in for various maintenance items too.

This is also a commercial and general-aviation airport too, so there's lots of modern passenger gets and old private planes.

But getting back to the post, there's a fleet of 2 or 3 DC3's that make the mail-run to Catalina Island about 3 or 4 times a day, so I've seen a DC3 fly, takeoff, or land about a million times over the past 9 years.

I still stop and imagine what a sky full of them must have been like every time I see it...

Hey Llama, I live in So Cal too, and see that mail run plane all the time. The aggressive way they bank that thing in and land it, I always think it's gonna crash.

No rain until the ride home, so we lucked out.  Hopefully the Spitfires will be back up in the air for you.  Both that flew yesterday had to be towed back to their static stand.  Heard talk that they were overheating.

Enjoy the show, I'm glad to see that the Geneseo show is building back up to what it use to be.

I don't know if they are still doing it but, the Lee County (Fort Myers) Florida mosquito control had 4 or 5 DC-3s they used to spray for mosquitos.  They would spray in formation.  It was quite impressive to see 4 DC-3s flying low overhead.  I almost ran off of the interstate one day watching them.

I live a little bit north of there, so I have not seen it in a while.  Maybe some AHer from Fort Myers could let us know if they are still flying.

Altitude restrictions say something along the lines of "except as necessary for takeoffs and landings."  The only "illegal" possibility would be a judgment by the FAA or even local officials (who regulate operation of motor vehicles) of unsafe operation.  But it would have to be a pretty blatant infraction.

I used to fly out of Tew-Mac, a small airport that was located right off the main road through Tewksbury, MA.  The landings on RWY 03 involved coming right over a miniature golf course, then Route 38.  I know I must have freaked out many motorists in my time, since the displaced threshold of 3 must have been less than 30 feet from the road.

I blew the skirts up on some pedestrians on my takeoff rolls.

I own a couple B-24s.

Are his like mine?

A DC-3 is a C-47.

Also...

In life and especially in here it is bad form to lie about things.  You know this I'm sure.  Whether or not it's about owning a B-24 other than a model or RC version; or about fibbing as to being a member of the armed forces by your location in your profile.  Here's a freebie to rethink what you're saying and to correct it before you earn yourself a label.  This also includes making things up for no reason about your family members' service records.  Things that for a myriad of reasons are untrue and easily proved as such.  They might fly in your 7th grade class but they don't work here with people who not only know infinately more than you but have also flown, worked on or served aboard those very airplanes.

Good luck.

Basically you're at a fork in the road:
-Path 1: You're going to insist what you're saying is true.  If you do this you will be shot down in no time at all because what your saying is not hard to discredit because you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.  Doing this will label you forever as a fraud.  This is the bad road.

-Path 2:  You admit you're not telling the truth, learn a lesson and don't do it again.  You earn respect and are going to be more welcome than path 1.  I fear that you will need to go down path 1 to learn this lesson but there's always hope.  Again...good luck.
