The "good guys" used Imperius quite a bit, I guess it must have been one of those "by any means necessary" situations, I'd be interested to know what the repercussions of that would be.  Perhaps the ethical dilemma would be a mature subject for a followup book...

Was Stan Shunpike a death eater after all?  What was up with all the casual usages of Unforgiveable Curses by the good guys?

Other then that, I loved it.

I think Stan Shunpike was falsly accused.

As far as using the Unforgiveable Curses; it was war: kill or be killed.

But Stan Shunpike was acting with the Death Eaters near the beginning.  Was he imperiused?  Was he always a Death Eater?  Did his false imprisonment drive him to become a death eater?

Eagler, please explain just why on God's green earth you have access to an image like that?

You had to actually put effort into obtaining it, and it is forever imprinted on your hard drive.

What other monstrosities are lurking in the hidden folders of Eagler's C:\ ?????
I don't know what to put here yet.

Finished it early Monday morning. It would have been sooner, but it was Mrs Wololey's birthday on Saturday and she insisted on being entertained and generally paid attention to (went to see the Wicked musical - very good if anyone's interested).

Book was very good, but she didn't half leave it open for further books if JK ever feel the need to further expand her bank balance.

As well as curses, I spotting a few unforgiveable cusses sneaking in there - did Ron not call Malfoy a bar-steward at one point?

I think Stan Shunpike was used.  He was put into Azkaban by the Ministry, and probably imperiused during the prison break.  Just a guess, but for him to be a legit death eater, the incompetent MoM would have had to have been right about something.  :D

'Harry saw the strangely blank face of Stan Shunpike'

I'd say that he was imperioused

As to the unforgivable curses my guess is that when the ministry fell it became a 'this is war' situation.

Interesting discussion she devil and I had today.  Did Harry kill Voldemort or did Voldemort kill himself?

My daughter and her friends were there at midnight to get the book.  She read it the first night.  I read it Sunday night.

Very enjoyable and it did tie up the loose ends.  I think she finished the series the only way she could have to allow for new readers to enjoy the series.  She ends it with hope and that's a good thing.

To be honest my kids loved the books but i didn't have the time or interest when they came out.  They bugged me long enough that I finally read the first one and then kept going.  I very much have enjoyed them, much to my surprise.  And I've re-read them all at least once.

If it's getting kids to read, it can't be bad.

A little of both:

Harry did the expelleramus thing and caused Voldemort's curse to ricochet back at him.
