So you observation of about 2 seconds does not look like a bug to me. :)

As I recall, one of the reason's the .50 BMG was so popular in air to air combat was it's relatively flat trajectory compared to much of the other stuff. The real thing traveled 800 yards in about 1 second, dropping less than 200 inches. A bullet traveling for 2 seconds will drop approximatly 4 times as much as one traveleing for 1 second.

I just did a small test. Took a F6F and fired at a target at 800yds. I recorded that with FRAPS, then examined the film on a frame by frame base. Bullet flight time was just about 1 second, maybe 1.1 at most. Did that several times, just to be sure.

How did you measure the time of flight in your test?

Now we have real data....   take a look at the velocity profile (by the way, this is a function of the ballistic coefficient, as well as density).   The "average" velocity is about 2400 fps over the 800 yards...  This means it would take about the 1 second he projected.

So, who the heck knows?  LOL   It should take a second...  On a separate note, the sound of the hit would be at the shooter two seconds later... Interesting.

Forgotten, but back in the game.  :)

I did a film, but AH's recorder doesn't show the target, so I wasn't able to look at it that way. Apparently Widewing's method didn't work too well for me. At this point I'll take your word that you got accurate information. This is the first reply that gave any good way to test this.

I think the air in Aces High is denser than your average air, least it seems that way to me.
Then again it might depend on who just exhaled.
Far too many, if not most, people on this Board post just to say something opposed to posting when they have something to say.
