Bullet speed
« on: July 30, 2007, 10:52:13 AM »
I've noticed that the speed of the bulletts in AH is about 1/2 of real life, most likely it's exactly 1/2 of real life. I haven't tested the plane speed yet. Is it 1/2 speed also? Is there a point to having 1/2 speed bulletts?

I always check the expiration date on my .50 cals when loading out just for this specific purpose.

Go offline and use the .target command. Set a target at 800 yards. Use a M-16 or something else with .50 BMG rounds. A .50 BMG has about a 2800-2900 fps muzzle velocity depending on specific load. It should take almost exactly one second to get to 800 yards. It takes 2 seconds to do so.

Are you sure? 2 seconds is a long time. Get a stopwatch and time it. I've taken many pot-shots at 800 yards and only had to wait about a second to see the results.

Also, that's just the exit-the-barrel speed. It slows down AFTER that point due to the density of the air its passing through.

EDIT: 800 yds is about 2400 feet. If the muzzel velocity is 2800-2900 (and I'm just quoting you here) it wouldn't be exactly one second it would be 0.85 seconds or so.

As soon as the round leave the barrel is starts losing velocity. There are smarter folks here who can explain it better. But suffice it to say it does not travel 2800 FPS the entire time it is in the air.

EEs are some of the smartest people I know.  I did this and it looks to be very close to one second at a target distance of 967.  Is it possible your having some PC hardware problems?
