bj229r,

Thanks for confirming what I said. They did not have false W2 forms. They had false Social Security numbers, but used a taxpayer identification number to file their taxes. The former is issued by the Social Security Administration, the latter is issued by the IRS.

They paid taxes through withholding, received a refund for the overpaid amount, the Social Security component was paid, but no benefit can ever be collected.
___________

I didn't allude to anything, xmarine, I said it. I also said that some areas have a disproportionate burden. I said that I didn't doubt California had such a such a large percentage of illegal alien prison population. I also said that poor people commit more crimes than middle income people. Who did you arrest more of, people without jobs or middle income and above people with jobs?

And why weren't they deported by the federal government? I said why also. People are complaining about the symptoms, not the disease. The symptoms are never going to go away until the disease of the dishonest class of businessmen and politicians are jailed. But that isn't going to happen. It's always about the money.

Let me tell you what local, county, state and national bureaucrats and politicians think about police, criminals and crime. They want crime, and they want criminals to be arrested over and over. Crime is an important industry that depends on criminals. It's just business and police are just low-cost machines who think they are serving their community, but in reality, they are revenue collectors and mining the raw material for the prison and crime industry. The crime industry, like any industry, is always looking for growth. It supports lawyers, judges, clerks, prison guards, bureaucrats and hundreds of contractors and vendor companies who spend lobbying money to ensure that the industry thrives. The more tax money spent on crime, the better the industry thrives.

"God help us all if there were no more criminals," said the lobbyist to the politician.

The politician nodded.

MY point was they MADE up social security numbers and put them on federal documents---If the IRS and ICE ever talked to each other, we could snag about 9 million of the salamanders each year

Its not the IRS not working with ICE, its the SSN department that won't check up on the numbers. All it takes is for them to check up on the SSN numbers and when the same number comes up in 2 differant states they need to turn it over to ICE to check up on. They don't.

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free."

So I guess this doesn't apply anymore?

Maybe we should just change it to this:

Before you go condemning people, maybe you should take a moment to actually REMEMBER American history, and how large a contribution so-called "undesirables" who fled here to avoid persecution, find better lives, or just be able to LIVE made in the FOUNDATION of this country.

I say if they want in, LET them in. But take measures to make sure they assimilate into American culture (but that DOESN'T mean they have to abandon their own. American culture in of ITSELF is one big mishmash of contributions). Make them take whatever citizenship classes/tests/WHATEVER are required for LEGAL immigrants, but make in mandatory for residency.

GOD, I'm so tired of the party line on this and EVERY issue. The ultra conservatives have beaten the image of America as the bastion of freedom, opportunity, justice and equality into a bloody pulp, with a President who wipes his bellybutton with the Constitution under the illusion of defending national security, while the ultra liberals are wrapped up in special interests and have had their backbones surgically removed so don't have the guts to actually put their foot down. And NONE of them give a rat's bellybutton about what's really best for the American public, or even what the American public WANTS because they all have the party leaderships' hands stuffed up their bellybutton like a bunch of ****ing ventriloquist dummies.

Can we PLEASE get a moderate voice of reason before the bleeding hearts and ultra right strip this nation of its last bit of sanity and run the country COMPLETELY into the ground? Frell, how the hell does anyone expect us to be able to rebuild someone ELSE'S nation when we can't even straighten out our own.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Some of the comments in this thread were probably the same ones the Irish, and Italians have heard.  Same comments, just a different generation.  Immigrants, illegal or legal will always be scapegoats when things don't look good.

Elfie, do those contracters pay income tax on their profits?

As a subcontractor I paid my taxes. I honestly can't vouch for anyone else.

Remember all of American history... You sort of advocate the immigration policy of the American Native Peoples...follow that policy and soon your culture is overwhelmed by a foreign culture.

I wouldn't disagree with this.

Otoh, we have had limited immigration for a very long time now. I'm not sure how many people we can assimilate into our society per year.

The way it stands now, people are crossing the border illegally making themselves criminals in the process. There is little to no enforcement of our immigration laws at this point. Either enforce the laws, or change them. Doesn't seem that hard to me.

A little Googling and this WOP acronym is aparrently not so.

There is no record in the immigration department of any such stamp ever being used.

A better possiblility is that it is a form of Italian dialectal 'guappo' meaning "thug", ultimately from Latin vappa = "flat wine".
