Oww!

Thought I sprained my ankle, doctor says it's gout.  Apparently it's hereditary- anyone else experienced this?  Played football on a broken foot, had my lower lip busted twice and sown up without painkillers- this is worse than anything.  Unimaginable pain- thoughts, advice?

First, get a second opinion. A lot of stuff that doctors can't easily explain is blamed on gout. My Dad was diagnosed with gout for years and it turned out to be a very complicated set of problems related to undiagnosed diabetes. Unfortunately, he didn't seek out a different opinion until it was too late and the damage had been done. Find an internist and get it properly checked out.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

Hmmm...........

Gout???

diet............ lack if iodine?

You on a low salt or NO salt diet?

iodized salt?  (seem to recall gout is cured with iodized salt???)

DEFINITELY get another opinion!!!!!!!!!
It's been said we have three brains, one cobbled on top of the next. The stem is first, the reptilian brain; then the mammalian cerebellum; finally the over developed cerebral cortex.  They don't work together in awfully good harmony - hence ax murders, mobs, and socialism.

Yer thinking of a Goiter bro.  ;)

I would GET a 2nd opinion because "tearing a ligament" and "gout" are on different levels of diagnosis.    Gout attacks tendons and cartilage, NOT ligaments.    Typically your big toe would have been your first indicator of "Gout" (majority of gout cases are discovered through this route).
