Anybody use Firefox?

If so can you tell me how it works with win XP (home) and do you like it.

Is it worth using vs IE?

I cant find anything about IE that Firefox doesn't do better (except load the Drudge Report, not sure what that is about) FF loads faster, teenage acne-laden hackers don't target it, and it has SPELL-CHECKER!--Also TONS of other handy addons, like ad-blocker:aok

I use FF on windows XP Home and Pro. Works great...

EDIT: oh and you can get different themes and stuff

So It just replaces IE? I've heard alot about it but want to be sure before I install it.

Please explain what Firefox is and and is there any issues with Win XP (Home)?

I've been thinking of installing it but I dont know much about it

Just try it. You can uninstall later if you don't like it. It doesn't uninstall IE and you have a choice which browser is default. You can even use them both at the same time.

Fire Fox is an Internet Browser like "Internet Explorer". It is a bit quicker loading, and a bit safer against hacker and malware due to the fact that it isn't a "target" as much as IE. It has a lot of add ons like spell checker (the main reason Hitech switched

), skins and "widgets" (small games and interactive software).

It works great with XP (all flavors), and is easy to install. It updates quick, and often enough to stay ahead of problems. Also, when you install it, you can brinig over ALL your "favorite places" from IE. Give it a go, you most likely will not go back.

Heck, there is even a Firefox plug in that will open a page in IE if you don't like the way it looks.

I use FF exclusively. The plug ins make it an indispensable tool for browsing safely. Check out NoScript if you find your PC getting spyware a lot.

I had all kinds of problems with Java sites causing it to crash and when I tried to revert back to IE I could not get the Sun java stuff off my computer and had to re-install the OS.

Too many ill-behaved sites on the net using proprietary IE tags.

Had I been able to remove the Sun stuff cleanly and revert back to IE, I would continue trying it. As it stands right now, it is not worth it to me.

I've used Firefox for years. Hate internet enema. I've never had Skuzzy's problem cause I disable java, (too unsafe for my tastes), and restrict javascriptusing.

For the most part, it does a better job then internet enema. You will, however, find a few sites here and there that don't follow industry standards, (ie; what Skuzzy said), and sometimes firefox won't work right with them. I've found those sites to be few and far between. If I absolutely have to access them, I use an extremely restricted internet enema, ( I set privacy and securtiy to the highest settings I can get away with), to view them.

I also use Mozilla's Thunderbird for my email. Love'm both!

I do not post a lot, nor do I pretend to have the wisdom of Skuzzy, but Firefox is the best thing to happen to the internet since the internet for all the reasons above. Plus it has many, many bells and wistles that are beyond handy.

e.g. Screen res set to max on 22" monitor? Cant read some pages because type is too small? Just hit ctrl + until its large enough.

As far as problems, the only thing I have run into is my McAfee (free for ComCast subscribers) It argues with McAfee when it tries to update virus definitions and son on. Solution: Continue to use the unnamable browser of the Evil Empire as default browser (F.F. will ask you when you first run it), but never use it to surf the net. McAfee does its thing, I do mine, and I haven't had any malware problems since. As far as java is concerned, more and more plug-ins are becoming available for F.F.

read up on FireFox/ Mozilla yourself, stickpig.....

btw Netscape & firefox both use mozilla ( which is open source code free to the world ) Firefox was a branch off of Netscape which was named 2 other things before Firefox became the well known name.....

I would pay attention to the paragraph labeled

I myself still use MS-IE 6.1 version only when is absolutely necessary ( as in reading expanded stats on Aces High , rofl....) or if I come across a website that my Netscape navigator 7.2 will not read properly which is very seldom, and the 7.2 version was the last version to come with everything ( ie...email, newsgroups, composer, webbrowser )

why mess with it if it works, and my netscape has blocked over 54,000 popups or java windows ( , I feel same way as wabbit concerning java and javascripting.......

VonMessa, you can change font size in IE as well. (Ctrl + Mouse ScrollWheel).

I am not an advocate of IE. But If you ever have to work much with financial institutions online, you find pretty quickly IE is the only thing that will reliably work simply due to the lunatics using Java all over the place and they are not shy about using MS/IE only extensions.

I have never had any problems with IE myself. but I have never used it with the defaults MS ships it with either. I must be doing something right. I have never gotten any spyware/malware/virus or worm on my computers.

Maybe I am just lucky. Whatever you want to attribute it to, I really have not found a compulsive reason to change. I keep an eye on it. I keep hoping the Java stuff will get fixed one day.

Well put Skuzzy. I, personally, usually don't have problems with I.E. (btw i know the newest builds allow magnification and tabbed browsing), but alas, I have a wife and two children. They always find a way to unwittingly sabotage my systems. When I started using F.F., it impressed me with the features mentioned above, among others not found in I.E. I guess I'm used to it now.

As far as banking goes, I use Wachovia for three accounts including my business account, and I seem to be O.K. But, thats my own, personal experience.

With regard to malware, etc. this is my stance. I now have two desktops, and 3 laptops. The laptops are for my Disc Jockey Company (I run PCDJ for music, video, lights, etc.). MY DESKTOP (caps intended) which no one may touch, and the other desktop which I recently "Frankensteined" together from older PC's from work, now belongs to the kids. I don't intend to hijack this thread, but, if you have ANY important info on ANY computer you own, BACK IT UP! Also, if possible, make a disk image.

I guess it boils down to personal preference.

I only use firefox and opera on both my mac and winboxes. Both works great and are far better than IE imo.

if you dont like firefox than use the internet explorer tab add-on ^_^
