The only way a computer could determine if damage were taken in an HO is if it actively tracked everybody's gun solutions at all times.  Then if you took damage from somebody's fixed forward guns  while you had also had a gun solution, then it could say it was an HO.

Mind you, it would register occasional false hits too as brief crossing shots that both parties could have taken would register as full on HOs.

And in the end, very, very few HOs would be detected this way and people would then whine like babies about the computer not detecting HOs when somebody had the gall to shoot them from a 20 degree front deflection shot.

Bad idea.

I get what you guys are saying about some people just having bruised egos, but I wouldn't write everyone off who complains about HO's (or, HM's :D ) as having a "bruised ego," especially considering many of the people who whine about HO's in the game are perfectly content to get their butts handed to them a hundred times in a row in the DA.

The bruised ego theory just doesn't hold much water for such types, and is a bit of a cop-out, in my opinion, that maybe helps your own bruised egos when you realize you got lazy and went for the face shot ;)

I dunno.  I never go for frontal shots unless I judge it is the best option.

I well remember having a Tiffie pilot go off on me hard because I nailed him in a 30-40 degree frontal shot while flying the Mossie.  Given the relative power of the two aircraft and my 1) low E state and 2) bomb laden state, I figured going for the fast kill was my best bet at making it.

And even then it was far from an HO.

I actually can't recall every getting whined at by a guy who went for the HO on my Mossie and lost.  The whiners are always guys who thought they had an sure kill and lost it to a deflection shot on the merge.

Sometimes maybe.  You guys think of HO being 2 guys heading towards eachother blasting away.  I don't thing anyone ever gets a ping on me like that.  The most anoing HOs are the ones that come in when you already are fighting 2 or 3 guys and you have very litle speed to avoid him.

That is not a bruised ego.  It is a waste of my time.  I don't like my time wasted like that.  Most of the times they dont get the kill anyway.  They just do enough damage for he other guys to finish the job.

So really, it is not bruized egos.  It is the question of why?  Why did you waste my time?  Why did you get in a plane clime to 10K and dive down to 1K to get an assist?  Why are you wasting your time in this game when you could be plaing SoCom or something like that? Why are you in a fighter but dont want to fight? It does not make any sence what so ever.  Why do you want to win wiithout even trying?

Easy answer.  You know you cant.  You dont even know who is in that plane and you still think you cant.  If you thought you could you would try.  So, everyone supporting that kind of fighting is because he knows he cant.  Eventually these guys will graduate to cherry picking but that requires a litle more SA

My favorite HO accusation is when someone is diving below me on the merge and I rake the top of his plane 400 yards away as he passes under me. Yup...that's an HO. :)

In all seriousness. What's rule #1...keep the enemy in front of you. When you have 2 people trying to do that exact same thing, at some point one or the other is going to take the HO shot. I don't care if it's the best ACM pilot or not. One or both of them WILL eventually take the shot.
Most of the people you meet in life are like slinkies. Pretty much useless, but still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

You should read my "How about instead of a HO..." thread in the general...  What you just described there is pretty fitting with what I was talking about.

People are calling it a HO, when it's really just a hot merge on your part, while you're smiling because you know darn right it's not actually a HO, but in any case, if it's a 1 v 1, it's just as lame, regardless :D

Daft idea, sorry.

Spatula I am surprised at you, it would done the same way all the other amazing stuff is done in AH.

I COAD would have to figure out that stuff :D

Guys I already posted a request about the hoing problem on the wishlist. I think that when there is a collision even if not intended both planes should fall from the sky. And nobody should be awarded a kill. And for the hoers who do do it to get a kill that would make them have to learn how to dogfight. I know it takes two to hoe but sometimes there is nothing u can do about it. So why don't we just make it like real life and have both planes go down when they collide and no one get a kill.

That would practically mean: Someone flying towards you, you skillfully dodge him, he passes you with a distance of 100yds .. and suddenly you go "boom" because of a collsion that never happened on your computer at all. Only on his.

That way intentional rams would finally always work

You don't want that, don't you? ;)

Also before I get accused of being the hoe. I would like to say that I have had been a hoe before but not on purpose. If I get a kill I usually type on private and say sorry and give a salute I will usually tell the person where I am and what plane I will be in so they can come and kill me without me putting up a fight. Just my way of letting them get payback but nobody has took me up on the offer lol.

I wish there was a counter to see how many times a person has whined about HOs, and then a counter to see how many times that person has died participating in the HO situation.  They act like they are victims, maneuver your plane and quit complaining.

Not a chance.  Most of the kills in the arena come from a relatively small percentage of pilots, most of whom won't HO.

I'd guess it's WAY over 50% for relative noobs and WAY under for more skilled pilots.

I'll HO in the right situations but I'd guess it's only 1 in 10 or 20 kills.

The other question is are you only counting the initial merge or any time?  Are you only counting 1 on 1 or in a furball?

Following the old 80/20 rule if 80% of the kills come from 20% of the pilots and 20% of those are HO's while 20% of the kills come from 80% of the pilots and 80% of those are HO's then the overall ratio is closer to 32%.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.
