Is the KI-67 understimated?
« on: August 17, 2007, 05:09:57 AM »
I mean by everybody? Even the bomber sticks? Sure it has a light bombload but cant it still make an impact? Most of all on specific missions?

And the bomber is pretty tough as well. Last night I was in a death fight with a 109, I forget who, and boy was he good. I had just dropped on a town to remove ack and he was the only one interested in me. We spun around for minutes trying to use the sun, and position for advantage. He seemed to know the blind spots on the bomber by heart.

Frankly he outflew me. The KI-67 absorbed quite a few hits however and I think he lost patience and made one mistake and I got 1 or 2 cannon hits in. I got both bombers home, with 1 engine working in each, smoking and flaming, across 3 sectors. Im not sure even a 17 could have done that. Boy I got a lot of respect for this airplane now. Fast, great climb, turns well, good guns, handles well even if it always wants to climb.

Whos a KI-67 fan? And is it underestimated?

I took it on a long refinery run too. No I couldnt take out 60% of the refinery but I think it had an impact, and, I loved how it got me out of radars at 325 mph. I like keeping it right above the clouds that way a bogey almost certainly has to give me cannon time. The tail guns are pretty nasty as well.

A few times now the speed of the 67 was underestimated by fighters on me and they dumped their energy to quickly, and hung up on my 6 for to long. Thats what speed does for ya.

the ki would be far better if it had a better bombload. it's great, but a boston does almost everything just as well, apart from guns, and it has a far larger bombload. boston is actually faster at some alts as well.

The problem is, Boston has it's best speed at 12k, which still makes it very vulnerable to interception. And if caught, it's dead.

The Ki-67 has it's best speed at 20K, and can rip enemy fighters apart with it's combination of 20mm and 12.7mm guns.

I've found the 8 100kg bombs do very nicely against towns and cities.  Almost as good as the B-17 and Lancaster really.  It just isn't for taking out hangars and other hard targets.

I love the 67.  Great to take up to 15k, fly at 300-325 mph and take out all the radar at 6-8 front line bases.

This bomber is great for 'soft targets' radar/ammo/towns

The small bombs actually work fairly well for strat targets too.

But you just can't beat the speed

The Ki-67 is a good penetration bomber, as stated in Soda's write up on it.  If you want to kill the dar or ord at several bases, it will do the trick faster than most other bombers.

It used to be good at killing CV's, but CV strength is bumped up to where that doesn't work in one run any more.  This used to be the primary reason I ran Ki-67's, and still do to finish a CV off that's been hit.

Used to pork troops at multiple bases with it too, before the MA arena breakup and additional troops added to fields.  Seems most maps we get now are easier to resup too, than some of the older and larger maps, where a bomb run could have a bigger impact.

I always load the 8 x 100kg (220lb) bombs in the Ki's.  I never liked the lack of blast radius on the smallest bombs.  That's enough to kill the dar at 8 fields, or ord at 4 small ones.

I've also occasionally listed a lone Ki-67 to harass enemy GV's.   Drop the ord on them, then circle overhead so I can bring the 20mm dorsal gun to bear on them in a poor-man's "Puff the Magic Dragon" plane.

It's a fun bomber, just limited in the roles it can do in the war arenas.

it's a great bomber, bomb load is average, range is good, armor is average, defensive armament is fine. one thing i don't like is its foward Mg. most bombers have 2 or Mg to defend it, only the Ju-88 has a weaker front armament. its Achilles Heel is no ball turret.

i like to fly the Ki-67 at low alt, around 5000ft-10,000ft. i like those unsuspecting victims thinking, "ooo it's a Ki-67, i got higher alt, let's dive on him!" then he meet the sting of my 20mm :t .

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

Lancaster's forward firepower is weaker too.

Luck I guess. Or maybe I'm just making it all up cause I have nothing better to do.

                              :huh

Read up on the airplane and you'll find it was very sturdy and heavily armored. Luckily for us there were also very few made, about 700 of them.

Once up to speed, at alt, it's probably the most survivable bomber in the game( almost too fast to intercept, and heavy firepower.)
