Holy sh....t
Same thing is happening to me !
Middle of dogfight when sudenly AH gets minimized and a pop-up screen appeared !  :furious :furious :furious

They are called "worms" in your files....
Your puter has picked up a virus and now its creating all kind of alarms to make u go panic and worried that personal info will be available to ackers....
It will, it can slow down your puter and obviously causing grief....
What to do ?
Be carefull because the msg appearing during the pop ups will include a "cure". This is all a trick for you to purchase the software....
Surf google ! Use the name of the virus with the "search" tool and find free instructions to get ride of these "exe" files that will stop the pop-ups !

I'm lucky ! My neighbour(also an AH player) is up to date with these proceedures !
According to him, its not a serious matter but it should be fixed asap !

Phil

Try AVG, if Avast can't clean it for you. Try spybot AND adaware. Also, MS has the malicious file removal available via windows update. It might or might not help.

It is estimated 1 in 6 legitimate web sites are now comprimised and infected with spyware. Buy some decent protection, NOD32 is a good place to start.

Try Spywareblaster, its free. I run it, Spybot S&D and Adaware 2007.

Also, are you running the IMMUNIZE functionality on S&D??? or just doing scans.

Highly recommend you Immunize, if you havent.

Go into MSIE's settings and DISABLE automatic file download, and running activeX plugins, and other things that you might be skeptical about.

Right.  Skuzzy's sticky on internet security.

You know, is it not almost worth avoiding the frustration by buying a $500 CPU and make it the family computer?

You can run your AH machine lean, mean, and secure.

I recently removed Avast ( I was cheap) because it was terrible at protection and could not detect a java virus I got.  Got NOD32 and it cleaned it and does a pretty good job.  Doesn't take a lot of resources.

Internet Explorer 7 is actually pretty safe.  Couple sites did a review on the comparisons of Firefox 2.0 and IE7 and IE was faster and a bit more secure.  Of course this was 6 months ago and a lot can change in that time.  I still use Firefox because I enjoy its plugins and SPELL CHECK which a lot of posters need on this forum.

I don't run software Firewalls, I do run a linux firewall box (IPCop), and NOD32.

Outside of Nod32
AVG's Anti Spyware is the best I've found.

And its free

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/29116/us/frt/0

I still use AVG's Anti Spyware And run it about once a week.
Covers alot of the tracking cookies NOD32 doesnt

 NOD32.

I have IE7 though I still prefer Firefox.

Personally I still find firefox to be alot faster and less problematic then IE which I will often have to reload pages because while it will say "Done"t o loading a page Nothing will show untill I reload.

With IE I've still had my NOD32 go off (yea pron site) while with Firefox going ot the very same site it never let the trojan even get that far.
It just didnt let it through. Period.

Both with basically stock settings visiting the same sites

MY OWN head by head comparison.

Firefox is still by far the better and more secure browser

I have my system set up for dual boot.  Ubuntu linux and XP.  XP is only for AH.  Ubuntu for everything else.  No virus protection (firewalled router as well).  I have found that most Virus protection programs bring windows to its knees eventually.

Look on the internet for "hitman pro". Its a free and serious all in one solution (set of programs), it gets rid of all spy-/mall- and other stuff-ware. I use it monthly just to be sure. In combination with Cc-cleaner and AVG-antivirus I keep 5 PC's in my family clean now this way. Didn't have any problem last three years.

Hope this helps you for a bit

Wow, Dred I've been using AVG AV for years and never knew about their anti-spyware app. (Doh!)

Got it now and added to my scan routine.

Thanks!
