Pyro! :) Mossie fuel tanks - simple suggestion

A while back you were taking suggestions for prefered fuel tank fill and burn orders for a number of planes; IIRC the 51D, 190s and maybe a few others.

Could you do the same for the mossie now?  The three sets of tanks' CoG's get further aft the further out they are from the plane's center.  The AUX's CoG is forward-most and center-most, the Inner tanks' is a little further forward and out in the wings, and the Outer tanks are furthest forward and outward of the three sets.
So, filling the AUX first, Inner second, and Outer last, and burning them in the reverse order would give the plane some more agility.

Considering the precendent, I thought it was reasonable enough to get your attention.

That's right.  I had been shown another diagram by someone here in the forums which put them as I said.
I guess I'll have to test it out to make sure burning and filling the tanks as I suggested is the best choice.

They're all so centrally-located in the wing that I don't think burning any of them would give a benefit to the CoG or not.

I mean, realistically, it might shift it an inch, but practically? It's a far FAR cry from the aux tank on either the P51D or the 190A8.

With almost no distinction between the tanks forward/back, I doubt you'll see much change. If you want to nitpick, burn the central tanks first (that's just because they extend aft the most), but if you want better roll you might want to burn the wing tanks first.


Another question is, if you're only taking 50% (or 25%) at a time, how much in which tanks does that default to? I.E. If 25% means your outboard tanks are empty anyways, it's a moot point.

I always take either 75% or (much less often) 50%.  Burning the outer wing tanks take more or less twice the climbout time.
The difference in filling the Aux first and Outers last wouldn't be negligible.

Consider also, they were auxiliary tanks. By definition, they were for extra fuel, if needed. Historically wouldn't they fill the center tanks first, and only then fill the aux if required?


P.S. 75% in a mossie is an hour's flight time. Why you want that much gas?

Textbook protocol was probably to fill AUX last, yep.  Were the 190s historicaly filled FWD first, AFT/AUX last?  I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for this.

More time flying means more kills and less time climbing out/rtb.  75% is about 45min, which is almost perfect for the amount of ammo.

No, 4 quarts/gal for both.

1 gal US = 3.786 litre

1 gal Imp = 4.546 litre

1 gal US = 1.2 gal Imp

1 quart US = 32 fluid oz.

1 quart Imp = 40 fluid oz.

Er, no I was right. 1 Imp Gal is 5 US quarts.

40oz times 4 = 160oz total
divide by 32 oz (divide by US quarts) and it = 5.

1 Imp gal = 5 US quarts. I'd read that somewhere, and now that I type this out I recal where. It's ... uh.. not important, but it was accurate.
