Cursed By My Own Performance
« on: September 04, 2007, 08:26:24 PM »
I don't design rocket engines or artificial hearts but I put forth the effort as if I was. In the last 30 days I have been sent to work in every store in our chain. I live 5 minutes from the store I normally work in.  Tonight the owner calls me up "Oh, please I need you to go fix blah, blah, blah..." So for the next 30 days or so I am commuting 60 miles each way to fire then hire and train someone to do the job. (No extra pay mind you)

The guy squeezes 6 cents from every nickle, screws his customers blind and I am doing his dirty work for him. I'm not even the District Manager but I'm doing his job. Maybe if he paid a decent wage instead of always lowballing he could hire some decent people.

I gotta find another job.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

Yep. Take the District Manager's job.  :)
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Rule #3

If your going ot do the job. Get both the position and the cash the job is supposed to come with or dont do the job.

Find yourself a similar position elswhere then tell your boss to either give it to you or your gone.

The only reason he gets away with it is because people let him get away with it.

Your being played for a tool plain and simple.

If your going ot do the DM job and you want the DM job then tell him so.
But dont just sit there and say nothing but  "yes sir"

Oh and make sure you get the title to go with it.
The money is good. But the title can be just as important in the future for future employment elswhere.

Its one thing to say you were doing the job of a DM
But its much better to be able to say you WERE the DM
Even if you were a lousy one it sounds more credible then saying
You just did the job of one but you were great at it.

60 miles? Is that all?  With football and working onsite in Issaquah, I put in 500 miles a week, even working 50% virtual! 12,000 miles in the new FJ in just 6 months. :(

Well, duh. I don't want the DM job, I don't want the job I'm doing now (which also would fall under the DM's duties). All I want is my quiet little Manager's slot and no overtime. I'm supposed to be semi-retired, not trying to climb the ladder.

I seem to remember you going through this before you became the store manager a few years ago, right? I think I advised you to keep your nose to the grindstone, not complain and you got promoted. Are you certain he isn't testing you to be the next district manager?

Never complain to anyone, even those outside the company. Things have a funny way of getting around.

I think you have two choices:

1. "Message to Garcia" and see what happens.

2. Look for another job while you're doing this. Do what is asked of you and you'll have a great reference.

Added: Just saw you last post... never mind. ;)

What did he say when you told him you just want to do your job now with no overtime?

I've done the commute thing for years. Just tired of doing it (and my Dodge Ram gets around 11MPG:eek: ).

Thanks. Rolex:)  Like the title says, I did the job too well. I reminded him of our agreement on work and my duties. Let me tell ya, this guy could sell ice to Eskimos.

Tell him the score upfront.

Dred, I could just walk out and quit. But, I don't have anything else lined up at the moment. Never quit unless you have something better lined up.

He seems to value you highly so just let him know that you either get your "quiet little Manager's slot and no overtime" or you will start looking for another job. :)
