That tells those of us who do know those guys how long you have actually been playing this game.

That half you haven't heard of is mostly the "old guard" that played this game back in the day when "rank" really meant squat.

Those were the top pilots back then, and you just knew they were ... no need to go to the score page to realize it.

Sadly ... most left right after the "Championship Shootout" cause IMHO, that when the "community" headed south, and they couldn't or didn't want to deal with the "race to rank".

The "race to rank" completely changed the dynamic of this game ... and not for the best IMHO.

I remember that, and remember thinking that it was a good thing that HTC was trying to add some challenges/competitions to the game.   I also remember thinking that it would subvert some players into thinking that rank was somehow meaningful.

How about we find out who the best MAer really is ?
« Reply #154 on: September 09, 2007, 06:27:24 PM »
In the old days of Air Warrior, we had the Air Warrior ladder - it was run somewhat like boxing - you battled your way, 1vs1, in a best 2 out of 3 fight to the finish - if you beat the guy, you moved up the ladder, and at the top, there was The Champ.

I see a lot of good names being tossed around in this MAer vs H2H post, which quite frankly is moot since H2H is now gone.

So, my question is - would any of you guys be willing to put your money where your ego is, and have the cajones to all enter a big tournament to see who the best stick out there really is ?  ....or, are we all just a bunch of brag-tards talkin' big 'cause we know a H2H vs MA event will never happen.

Hmm, why not just test 50 vs 50 in one of the other arenas, maby in the events server.
Heck throw in 50 more from another team.
HUZZAH! :aok

Question is, would it just be fighters? attackers or bombers?

:D

Would love to see 150+ people all in heavy bombers shooting it out.
Man, ahII could have so much FUNNER events.

There once was a duelling ladder and several tries to revive it, but to my knowledge they died from disinterest.

I might, however, direct your attention to King of the Hill (KotH) - http://ahevents.org/koth-related/king-of-the-hill.html
In my opinion, the best test of acm skill we currently have. Everybody ups the same plane, giant brawl, last standing, err flying, won the round. Win three rounds: King of the Hill.

....Or fear of putting it on the line...

A lot of people talk big about wanting fair fights (not you specifically Lusche), and they lament over HOing, cherry picking and running - but they still stay in the MA (where the latter is the norm) and you never see them in the DA (I respect everyone I've ever seen in the DA), where all you have is the fair 1 vs 1 fights they keep saying they wish everyone would give them.

I have a theory that a lot of people here like to talk big, but they hide behind the cloak of deniability that the MA gives them (you can always make some excuse why you got killed there because anything goes).

Everyone claims they want it, but many are actually scared crapless of fighting a fair fight against other SKILLED pilots NEAR their own level.  In their own minds, they've built themselves up as superhuman, and they're terrified of getting beat in a fair fight - against a "name opponent" - because they'll lose face in the AH community.

The latter kills me - I mean, we're all just "voices in the machine" - it's like Homer wanting to catch General Sherman (the giant catfish), just to impress the local barflys.  Of course a variation of this is score-whoring - I mean, think of all the TEDIOUS work it takes to build up a top score... Who the hell are you really impressing ?  Know what I mean ?

I'm honestly surprised people wouldn't be ALL ABOUT the dueling ladder like some of us old timers were in Air Warrior - especially given all the tough talk on 200.

Skyrock your statements aimed at Sloehand are bullchit. you are being a banana, mate.

Sloehand is a very fine pilot in the game, he is a very kind person, he is polite, fun to fly with, and enjoyable to talk with.

now Skycrock and Masherbum go off and have your little laugh at 'i own you' comments and when youre done with that maybe you would find equal pleasure in standing on your head, peeing down you leg and playing with the steam...

and Mark, we are surely virtual friends.....but get this. you really are not that good. you are decent in a 1 on 1 duel, sometimes even excelent, but youre not as good as you think or as you convince those who you 'own' to belive you are.   Its just boring now, sad and boring.

infact, most self-promoting 'aces' are not anywhere near as good as they like to think, hence the verbal displays to back up the average flying. And it works.......anyone who knows 'skyrock' is good knows it because you told them. congratulations on the social manipulation, youre just like creton wass, and you didnt like him for his act did you now?

if any of you self promoters would care to disagree with me lets go do it in the DA. just make sure you tell me if the fight is for fun or for 'who is best'. if for fun then you may even be allowed to win a couple. if it is for 'who is best' then you will see the error of you foolish ways.

when you start being rude and offensive to such a great person as Sloehand, you lose my respect completely.

regards,

hamish

PS: salute! slash, spazzter, you both should be on those lists long before me.

^ what he said.

I've shot you down in the MA skyrock, 1 on 1, and you're nothing compared to guys like kappa, akak, drex, levi, and a number of the 56th guys. Most of the current MA 'talent' is nothing special compared to those old farts.

Take 50 H2H pilots (the best they have) and fight them vs. 50 MA pilots (the best we have) in a huge furball.

What would the results be?

How many MA people ya' think would die before all the H2H people were shot down?

I personally think it would be a slaughter, as large furballs are common in the MA but basically unknown in H2H (limited to 8 people)  Add to that the calibre of pilot is way, WAY higher in the MA vs. H2H.

Do ya's think the H2H pilots would stand a chance?

Would their lack of fighting more than 3-5 opponents at a time in H2H be as large a handicap as I personally think it would be?

hmmm....

i think it'd be a good fight
personally i was a proud H2H pilot and learned all i know there.
went into the MA's and first thing i find myself in...a huge furball (40-50 some enemy people) I'm flying my p38L lightning and on my first MA sortie in years, i RTB with 8 kills and 3 assists...i think it'd be a decent fight.

I never can understand why people say bad things about Creton.  He's been my friend in this game for many years and I've always found him to be a gentleman and great sport.

I've dueled him probably more than I've dueled anyone else and we never get upset with how it goes.  He's actually very sporting - he's willing to take his K4 against my -1 and try to beat me at my own game.  All he has to do is climb and I'm toast, but he tries smacking me around in a full flap turnfight, and gets shot down a fair portion for his troubles.

I don't know.  Maybe your experiences are different, but when people talk poorly of Creton I have to figure it's because of a bad night here or there that soured on ya.  Give him a clean slate and he's just like you and me in the DA, Fink :aok
