Most Humiliating Defeats
« on: September 06, 2007, 01:14:32 PM »
Anybody ever get shot down where it really burned you up? I don't mean really mad, just totally humiliated. I've been with AH for almost three years now, I think, and there was one humiliating defeat that I'll probably always remember.

This happened last year I think and was one of the first times I bumped into Allison. She'd shot me down something like eight times in a row just a few days earlier:

I log on and the map looks quiet. I decide to up at what looks like a quiet field and make a raid on an enemy field. I up and start climbing, not bothering to look around much since the radar shows everything all clear. I'm cruising along for a minute or two and then, BAM, BAM, BAM...."Allison Shot You Down".

She caught me completely unawares. "Ok", says I, "I'll see if I can't get even". I up in a p51b and head back to where she got me. As I bailed I noticed she also had another bad guy with her.

I go back and find them. I shoot down her wingman fairly quickly, surprising myself, then mix it up with Allison for a while. Finally I manage to get her, but just barely. Still, a kill's a kill, and I'm stoked, after she whooped me eight times in a row earlier on. I got revenge. Now, to add insult to injury, I want to land those two kills and really humiliate her.

I put the pedal to the metal knowing Allison will likely be back up to extract her revenge. I don't want to push my luck with her so I even go to WEP for a short while heading back to my base.

It's not too long after that a Spit shows up a ways back on my six. I'm thinking to myself it must be Allison but she switched planes for some reason. She was in a Nikki before, I think.

But the plane just seems to follow me at about 5.5k. Didn't seem like she was trying too hard to catch me.

Finally, my airfield comes in view. I know I've made it. Even if she hurries up and tries to catch me landing I can just drag her through the ack. I've got it made!

Suddenly the Spit turns around and heads back the other direction. I'm thinking she must not have wanted to take chances with the ack and feel I've pretty much made it.

I make my approach and land. Just as I get ready to roll to a stop I look to my left in the direction the Spit had headed and realize I've been had: "Allison, you *****!", I'm thinking to myself.

About 1500 meters out, right on the deck, is a Nikki heading straight for me. No way I could stop and end the flight. No way I could get in the air again. I was stuck.

All I can hope for is luck enough for the ack to get her. Nope. "Allison Shot You Down" comes as I'm thinking that. All I could do at that point was IM her saying, "That was SO RUDE!".

I fell for one of the oldest tricks in the book. She distracted me with her wingman in the Spit while she snuck along underneath me where I couldn't see her.

She got me good. I was totally humiliated with her turning the tables on me.
Well done, Allison.

Anyone else have any humiliations they'd like to share?

Yeah, just the other day I wrote in the "how good are you?" thread that I felt comfortable enough to say that I don't completely embarrass myself against the good sticks in this game.  A few minutes later, I log into the DA, find Dedalos, and am shot down within a whole 3 seconds after the first merge :D

I chuckled loud enough for my cubicle neighbor to ask what was so funny.

Thanx  :aok
Forgot who said this while trying to take a base, but the quote goes like this. "I cant help you with ack, Im not in attack mode" This is with only 2 ack up in the town while troops were there, waiting. The rest of the town was down.

Don't confuse luck with skill V.  You know how it goes at the merge.  You try to guess where the other guy is going.  You guess right and you are 733t.  :rofl

In aceshigh 1 the rookie batfink all pumped up on the whole fighter game thing and feeling pretty good in a spitfire, decided to accept a challenge from a vet and headed to DA. we met and flew past each other, myself in a spitfire and my opponent flying a p47 D40, and i turn back to chase the enemy.

"want to turn and merge then?" i ask on channel 1

"nope im ready now lets go" says the vet.

"but im already on your tail" i say with a grin of inevitable victory

"thats ok, just come attack me" comes the reply.

batfink attacks from 6 oclock, vet drags half round a turn then rolls back and cuts the power. batfink flies right past and turns hard as realises whats happening, all too late....... 8X 50cals spray out for a second and batfink dies.

SYSTEM: ManeTMP has shot you down.

batfink learns ACM.

After 5 years i just started playing again in June 07. I found a good squad to fly with and quickly found its not like riding a bike.  Anyway, we were trying to take a base for about 2 hours without success.  We had lots of help but just could not get a goon or M3 in. I musta ran 15 m3's in either supplying or troopin it not to mention countless osti failures. Finally Just as time was running out I somehow make it farther than anyone else had in with my m3.

I get on squad and tell them I'm close. I get on range and tell them I'm real close and gonna make it. Range and squad all start yelling "drop the troops there and get off the field!!  I tell them NO  I'm almost to edge of town.....Then I'm in Town!  I"m ALMOST TO THE MAP ROOM!!!!!!!!!  Everyones yelling  LET THEM OUT!!

I open the doors and go to my gun and push the button and start  looking around. Not one bad guy within 2.5k  I start pushing the button some more just to make sure and say on Range They're going to make it!!!
I Look around some more  and here comes a bad guy. Then I look for my troops to see how close to the map room they were and........I DOn't see any!

I say "Troops aren't going out!"  Everyone starts Yellin  ARE THE DOORS OPEN?   WHERE Are YOU!   "YES AND I'm in the gun position, I Don't See Them"  I reply.  Just as they kill the incoming bad guy they say  GO BACK TO THE DRIVERS SEAT AND LET THEM OUT  you cant let them out from from there!!!
So thats what I do as quick as i can.

Mistakes I won't make again in an M3

#1         You can't drop troops from an M3 in the gun position

#2 MAKE SURE YOU HAVE TROOPS and not supplies.

When I realized i had supplies I pretended to get booted didn't say a word and pressed end sorti and quit.

At least  range didn't find out about it.

When I am in a low turn fight and I auger, giving the other guy a proxy.  Grrrrrr I hate that!   I'd much rather just get shot down.

I always find out how "not" good I am after about 6 beers!

Timing is everything, and beer and timing do not go hand in hand!:D

Nothing says humiliation more than diving out of a furball to attack a helpless pilot under a parachute, and missing . . . and augering.

Happened more than once in AH1.  Damn I'm good.  ;)

Well I don't know how humiliating this was, but I sure did feel dumb:

Few months ago someone on 200 was looking to DA.  I can always use some ACM practice so we went to the DA.  He picks the plane, P47-D40.  Off we go, merge at 6K.  I get shot down about 6 seconds after we merge wondering what the he11 is wrong here.  Then the guy ask me why I was carrying rockets and bombs.  Boy do I feel stupid.  Guess next time someone wants to duel in my JABO plane, I check the loadout before takeoff.
