fun flying?
« on: September 10, 2007, 12:08:34 AM »
I've been gv'ing for the last few years. Got into a plane all evening today. It was far less than fun. I guess the fun part comes in when you know what the heck you're doing (and your screen isn't freezing). So maybe I'll give it a go instead of dismissing it as 'completely boring.'

mom!
screen freeze can really suck!
but dont give up on flying it take time to get good at it. the best bet is to get with a trainer. heck ive been playing over 2years and still learning(i fly more then GV cuz i hate GV's). Or if you cant get a trainer due to none being on you can always ask on 200 if anyone would goto the TA with you and help.

Texasmom,

Flying is fun :D

Find yourself someone around your own skill level who has the same frustrations and head on into the TA with each other.  Grab your favorite planes (same or different, in the TA, it really doesn't matter), grab a light fuel load (I'd suggest 50 because by the time you're at 25 in most planes in the MA, you're rtb and thus training with it doesn't make much sense IMO), and just have at it for a few ammo loads.

Then find someone a little bit better than you and do the same thing.

Finally, find someone a whole lot better than you and repeat the process again.

You'll be up to speed in no time, and I guarantee you'll have a blast in the meanwhile :aok

Txmom any chance we can hook up in the TA some afternoon?

I'd really love to get you into a val and teach you to dance.

But perhaps we need to work out those screen freeze issues first.

Does it happen when you fire guns? Or some other sound event?

What resolution you running at? Texture memory?

give me a yell if I can be of any assistance

Thanks y'all ~ will do all of the above.

Ghost, screen froze each time a radio keyed up (on any of the channels) or when I moved the hatswitch. I think txdad will be able to look at that & make some adjustments to improve that.

Thanks again:)

*edit* okay, maybe not ALL of the above. I don't plan on yelling Leroy Jenkins anytime soon.

well then I would think flying ground attack missions might be a way for you to get into flying more. Take up a nice stable fighter mounted with rockets and bombs and practice on some of them nasty GV's. If nothing else you will learn what it is them nasty fighters are going through when they are dropping on you. :-)
