Man dies from internet gaming

Associated Press
BEIJING (Sept. 17) - A man in southern China appears to have died of exhaustion after a three-day Internet gaming binge , state media said Monday.

The 30-year-old man fainted at a cybercafe in the city of Guangzhou on Saturday afternoon after he had been playing games online for three days, the Beijing News reported.

Paramedics tried to revive him but failed and he was declared dead at the cafe.  The report said that about 100 other Web surfers "left the cafe in fear after witnessing the man's death."

China has 140 million Internet users, second only to the United States. It is one of the world's biggest markets for online games, with tens of millions of players, many of whom hunker down for days in front of PCs in public Internet cafes.

I wonder what he was playing :noid

Well what would you expect from people living under such a represive government? I mean lets get real, they kill your kids if you have the wrong kind. Every aspect of your life is completely controlled and you have pretty much no freedom.

Imagine going decades without any joy in life then you hookup to the internet.. why stop, at least you can die with a smile on your face.

IMHO the problem is not the internet.

Your probably right.. all it takes is one bite, and then watermelon would really hit the fan.  I've never seen a zombie killed with a keyboard so they probably did the smart thing by running.

thanks

What a stupid explanation. So I guess all of those folks in South Korea dieing is a direct result of repressive government. Let's invade and give them freedom! ....oh wait.....thats already done.

This just in. He was playing AH with two accounts at the same time and Ho'ed himself with 262's. The 640 point loss was just too much.

I don't expect them to die from a 72 hour gaming binge while declaring
"That'll show those commie repressive government types."

I recall reading of similar examples of people dying for gaming binges...loaded up on caffeine, junk food...even not using the bathroom...til their ticker gives out.

I also remember reading there was a Warcraft (or Everquest?) player so depressed over loosing his character, he killed himself.  Or maybe it was that his player account was hacked and he lost a lot of earnings?  Cant recall...thought the kids Mom started some OnLine Gaming support group?

I bet he died from coach class syndrome.  If sitting still on an 8-hour flight can screw up your circulatory system, can you imagine what sitting for 72 hours can do?
