Generic HO & run whine
« on: September 24, 2007, 06:21:01 AM »
I absolutely, positively cannot STAND it when people run away, or worse yet, HO THEN run.

Couple days ago a C-Hog was taking down a town. It was early morning & not many people on. I up a spit and proceed to engage. He goes for the HO, I immel at 1.0 and am rewarded with a nice trailing position. What happens next ... you guessed it, C-Hog goes to warp.

About a hour later the same base starts flashing. So I up again. This time in an LA7, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Again the Chog goes for the HO, again I counter with a simple immel, AGAIN the Chog dives for the deck and bugs out. But this time I got the little bugger and gave him a quick trip to the tower.

This morning I engaged a tempest, we turned for a bit and just before I got in a position to bring guns to bear he heads for the deck and WEPs out of there. I chased for a sector or so and he didnt turn around till he managed to find 2 or 3 of his buddies who decided I had too many wings on my plane and do a bit of redesign.

I was about 12-14k when I saw a mustang 4.0 out, we merge cleanly & proceed to mix it up. Once again as I start to get angles on him he dives to the deck & heads for friendlies. I manage to get 800 out when I see a high P38 at 2 o'clock and diving. I cant catch the runstang so turn for the P-38. After a couple turns with the lightning I hear a couple pings and there is the mustang, all brave and stuff. I turn around with him a bit but the P-38 decided I had too much fuel and put a hole in my fuel tank. So leaking fuel, 50 rounds left and 5 kills I figure I might as well head home. No one pursued so I dont count this as 'running'.

These are the reasons I fly the LA- 7. Call me a dweeb, but at least I aint a rundweeb.

I just let them run, I'm used to it because I mostly fly the Zero and Spit5. If they decide to come back chances say you now have an alt. advantage and running will be all the harder the second time around.

What bugs me are the guys who run until you turn your back on them, and try to HO you again when you reverse back into them.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

don't chase.

give them your 6 and they'll come back.

then they will run again when they loose position.

rinse/repeat.

at some point, typically the 3rd or 4th time they reverse back into you, they'll do something "dumb" and you kill them.  (I think they get a false sense of bravery after succesfully running 3-4 times so they try an actual "move")

waste of time chasin' them for a sector.

Just turn away from the runners and they become brave and turn for you.. go nice and straight so they think you are afk or dont see them and then break and engange at the last moment.

I don't mind if they run from me if they're in a plane that simply can't turn with the fighter I'm in. What I hate is when they run but are in a fighter that can easily stay in a turn fight with my plane. Then I do as Lute said, I let them onto my six. If they're in a La-7 and they run you know they aren't that good at dogfights, so you can easily get them off your six whenever you want.

The other night I up my 38... the first 4 enemy I meet try to HO me. Three were spits and one was a pony. Funny thing each time I was alone and they had multiple friends there. Spits and LAs seem to HO the most in my book but they by no means are the only culprits.

In WWII this was a valid tactic but frowned upon because you chanced being killed too. So by valid I'm sure they mean as a last choice when outnumbered or damaged.

In two weeks when the next AH comes out I think you'll see a lot less of the HOs. A death then would require the person to start all over in training.

I think the best is when they try to run from a lala.  The can see that you are closing but do they try anything?  Nop, lol.  They keep going hoping that ack may come out to save them.  Eventually at D400 at hose them down.  They wont turn even after the first pings, lol.  Way too many Spitfires doing that lately

I just about ran out of fuel in my pony "chasing"fights. I had 3 or 4 guys come in with alt ( I don't make it over 12k often), after a pass or two they have lost their advantage and I'm the one on top, and their next move was RUNNNNNNNNNNN!! They would only come back when I was busy with another, or they had regained there alt advantage.

I finally followed a spit 8 to the deck into a furball out numbered 7 to 1 just to get to shoot some ammo !!! I was on fumes anyway, I figured it was the only fight "they" could settle for.

On the third ho attempt by the ho-runner I don't try and avoid and fly right at him with the trigger down attempting to ram.

It sure if fun watching the buffer if he go's down at times.

Fly a C hurri, and give them your six. You're too slow to chase anything, so you won't be tempted. They know you can't run away, and they'll eventually get brave enough when help arrives. When said help does arrive, shoot them all in the face.

You win.

The ones I hate the most are the ones that HO and run, and then when you chase them down to teach them a lesson they kill you.  How embarrassing.
