On Wednesday, Zapeta went to immigration court and got more bad news. The judge gave the dishwasher until the end of January to leave the country on his own. He's unlikely to see a penny of his money.
"I am desperate," Zapeta said. "I no longer feel good about this country."

Why wait for MT?  Right is right and wrong is wrong.  Other than being an illegal immigrant, he did nothing wrong.  Probably owed little to nothing in income tax at less than $6000 a year income.  Dishwashing is hard work and he earned his money.  He should have his money.

He earned the money. He evaded taxes. He should keep his money but do jail time and/or pay fines for income tax evasion. Of course then his trespassing butt should be kicked back to from where he came.


Oh yeah, all illegals doing time in our prisons should pay their own room and board if they have the means.

You are correct that he probably owed little to nothing given the yearly income.  
But you still have to file you taxes even if you do not owe anything.  
Therefore he broke the law.  
He should be charged with evading taxes and ordered to at least pay a fine.  
Then, and only then should he be allowed to leave with the money he has left over.

Whatever tax there might be on $70K is cheap to get rid of an illegal.

Some of the illegals from Guatemala arrived to escape political imprisonment or death.  They didn't come for the money so much as they came to keep on living.  I have compassion for them, matters not their politics if they're here for sanctuary.  

Guatemala is very impoverished after their civil war of 36 years.  Many were displaced, mostly Amerindians.  For a lot of them it was either leave or be killed, or have an extremely miserable life.

Now I'm not saying this guy is a political refugee, but when speaking of illegals, Guatemala is a special case to consider.  For them it very well could be come to the U.S. or die.
