Curv,
What CAN you buy? Like how will you purchase it? Will it be through the club?

I'm not sure yet man.  I will find out that stuff on Sunday I guess.

I suspect I will have to do the purchase through the club, but I am not sure I will be interested if it is just .22s that are allowed, for example.

Advice on what to buy is hard to provide until you know what the specifications are for allowable weapons there. Here it would be no big deal and would be limited to what you want and can afford.

As far as the eye issue is concerned, you should figure on glasses. I am assuming you will have a range requirement for safety glasses anyhow so getting a set with your correction in it would be a good way to solve the problem.

You'll need ear protection of some kind. I prefer muffs but others like ear plugs. Whatever feels good and helps you shoot.

What do you need for storage or do they require you leave your firearm at the range instead of your home?
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

It will be the one not wearing pink shorts. :)

Have fun.

You may well find that if you are using a scope the poor distance vision is not an issue.  Basically, your eye is focusing in just fine close on the scope and seeing the picture of the long distance image.

Have Fun ;) Make sure you get some instruction so you learn how to do things right and safe from the start.

.22s can be fun, but (IMO) mainly if its walking around in th great outdoors and plinking at stuff. I've found 22's get pretty old on the range after a while. Though marksmanship target shooting is likely a different story.

If you are limited to bolt actions, then a nice Enfield would put you in touch with the greatest bolt action battle rifle ever made and the historic staff of British might through two world wars. A Russian Mosin Nagant is probably the only WW2 rifle that still has abundant cheap ammo.

If it even remotely allowed, an M1 Garand would be it, or a Carbine.

If Bermuda is even remotely as cool as France you could even go with a dreaded AR-15 platform. Easy to shoot, cheapish ammo -- a great civilian range rifle.

I actually taught recruits how to shoot from the "ground up" based on British Army weapons classes when I got called up here.

I thought I'd mentioned that before.

Stuff like that gets forgotten in the shine of a good gun thread though.  ;)

The eye thing wasn't an issue back then.

We have a lot in common then :) I'm sure safety was every bit the mantra it was in the US Army.

I would say wearing those pink shorts...and that picture of you looking like an album cover from Air Supply qualifies as criminal!!

Have fun Curv!

curval.. what do you want me to say?

All I can really say is that I hope you have a good time and...

That while you are shooting that you think about what you are doing.   I see no reason that you should have less or more opportunity to shoot or even own and carry firearms than anyone else.

I have no right to stop.. or even vote on... your right to do so and you have no right to stop or vote on anyone elses right to do so.

I don't want you to saying anything in particular.

I already have the same rights as anyone else here...assuming they have no crimminal record anyone is able to join the club and shoot.
