I DO agree that the graphics shouldn't be able to be turned down to see GVs and I posted it in the Wishlist forum, but again...if you truely have a tree or hill blocking another players shot it will block it.
I don't play the turn down graphics game, but I have been accused of it. You'd be surprised what just a slightly different angle does when it comes to a hit or no hit. Again, WITHOUT the graphics turned down you may not be able to see them or get a shot on them, but they can see you WITHOUT the graphics turned down and have the shot just because of a slightly different angle.
And if I see you roll to the hedges and I know where you are I can hit you by trajectory without the graphics turned down. It may take me a few shots, but I will get you.
I'd seriously suggest filming some GV action and when you get hit like that, look at the film from the gun of the person that killed you. And I mean look at it from the beginning because he may have been watching you the whole time. You might be surprised to see what they can see.
NHawk, you are just being foolish. Try re-reading what I wrote.
I am not talking about angles. I am not talking about shooting through objects. It is all about line of sight.
If I am behind an object that obstructs your line of sight, you should not be able to see me. Period. However, the way the game is now, if you turn down the object detail, you can see me clear as day. The objects become transparent after a certain distance, but my tank does not. So, you can see me and lob shells over the objects that should be keeping you from seeing me in the first place. This is the complaint.
Before I upgraded my graphics card, I had to keep the object detail turned down or else suffer frame rates in the low single digits. At times I would see tanks and fire at them, only to see my shell hit and explode against an intervening tree that I could not see. With the tree in the way, I should not have even been able to see him at all, but I could.
In the case described above, if the tree had been a hedge, the shot would have gone over and he would have died, even though I did not have a legitimate line of sight.
Visible range on ground vehicles should be tied to the object detail settings for this reason. If a tree at 800 yards becomes transparent at a given graphic detail setting, then so should vehicles.
