all seriousness, i personally think that the no tolerance in school for guns and such is a good thing, but to go by a drawing that a kid had done...thats ridiculous.

They don't care if you draw guns at catholic schools.. they are too busy teaching you how to read and write.  Draw guns if you like so long as it is on your time and you are quiet and polite about it.

vouchers are the only answer.

I'm a strong proponent of the 2nd amendment. No restrictions. House a ballistic missile in your backyard is OK by me.

Zero tolerance rules = idiocy by my reckoning. They are an admission that the people supposedly in charge can't be trusted to think.

BUT if my 7 year-old drew a picture of two people, one pointing a gun at the other, with the word "me" over the gun pointer and another kid's name over the other person, I would a) want to know about it and b) have some stern conversations with my kid about conflict resolution and gun safety. I wouldn't expect any school to let it pass without at least asking whether there's a sentiment behind the drawing that can be used as a teaching moment.

agree with samiam... conflict resolution and gun safety are the only issues in this situation.

The NRA used to come to schools to teach gun safety but most public schools have kept them out in the last few decades.

We really do need a voucher system.   The people who don't want vouchers are either the far left who want to social engineer at an early age instead of teach and.. lazy teachers who want to protect their part time jobs with full time pay.

often those opposing vouchers are both.

well...here's my opinion, yes they have gone too far with the drawing. BUT...just last week some kid brought a gun to my daughters school, she's in middle school. he aparently just wanted to show it to his friends but still, it was a scary thought for me cuz my daughter is only a few lockers down from this kid and the school was crawling with cops.  they then had to open their lockers and let the cops search the rest of the lockers also...so here is my point.....FIRST of all...if u are a parent and have fire arms in your home...LOCK THEM UP....dont leave them laying around the house so the kids can get them...boyz bein boyz..they like that stuff, think its cool....but LOCK THEM UP...its the parents responsibility to make sure that is done correctly so that stupid mistakes dont happen....like that family where the lil boy and his sis was playin around and the lil boy had the gun and shot his sister killing her. i HATE dumb parents that are irresponsible. i personally am glad that they have the "no tolerance" thing in the schools but the drawing thing was taken too far, i agree that the parents should have been notified of it so they could have had a talk with their son and the school at the same time. just because he drew a pic doesnt make him a pyco.

You know, looking back I may not have had the brightest father.  In that sense, Betty.  And you know, you're right.  My dad fought in Korea, and collected alot of things after that.  And he kept them around the house, constantly.

We had these two little dummy grenades, I loved them when I was little, I would constantly fiddle with them, and since they were dummys I would pull the pin out, and try to get it back in, it was just something to do.

Now, I will never claim to be the smartest person, but in hindsight.  I might have been one stupid prettythang little brat...   Because one day I brought one of them to school, for show and tell no less!

My teacher freaked out...  I can't blame her.  But in my infinite Wisdom, I proved to her it was fake.  By pulling the pin out.  You know, I didn't even get detention...

Poor woman, I hope she's doing okay now.  I haven't seen her in years.
