It's a nice tool that lets you track friends online and know what they're playing at any given time, join them im them (in some games even without alt tabbing), track your gaming hours, and stuff like that. It can be pretty useful, and in any case it brings visibility to games as well.

Considering it has 8 millions of users i'd guess it's pretty safe, isn't it?

I have xfire and it gets really annoying when people message you, you alt tab out and bang ur in the dirt with a bent propellor and no wings :).  I read something that says xfire has a policy that they will not support non cd-based games. So we might be wasting our time

well, if the game gets supported they might manage to work it so that messages can be displayed and answered directly in game without alt+tabbing. Otherwise you can disable message sound and just answer messages after you landed.
About CD games, they already support several games that are available only for download, so i doubt that's the case

xfire has been proven before to contain spyware and download it's crappy updates in the background, being a long time user of the software, I wouldn't recommend it.

I checked it with mcafee and several antispywire programs, and it doesn't contain any malicious software, it does OPENLY send information about what game you're playing and keeps track of how many hours you play such game, that's one of it's purposes, so it's not spyware, it's a feature.
Also, automatic download in the background can be disabled.
No one forces anyone to use it, but it supporting Aces High 2 would only be an advantage for the ones that do.
