Define Political Correctness--in any terms you want
« on: October 24, 2007, 10:50:30 AM »
To me it's the state of mind where one, or more commonly, a group, feels compelled to sacrifice values and beliefs for the sake public image.

It's a doubly futile policy because not only do you end up betraying your convictions, but you also end up sabotaging any potential credibility your image-making efforts may have ever possessed.

Any elaborations?

sissy girly-men who constantly worry about how other people "feel" and are afraid to speak the truth.

-or-

the mindset that hurting someones feelings is more damaging than physically hitting them with a bat over the head.
I don't know what to put here yet.

“The struggle is always between the individual and his sacred right to express himself and... the power structure that seeks conformity, suppression and obedience.” —Justice William O. Douglas

My opinion has already been said by someone else...........

"Political correctness is really a subjective list put together by the few to rule the many a list of things one must think, say, or do. It affronts the right of the individual to establish his or her own beliefs." —Mark Berley

"Dangerous laws created by well intentioned people today can be used by dangerous people with evil intentions tomorrow." - Alan Eppers

IMHO the intention is to use P.C. as a tool and eventually this is where I think it's going..............

"We lost many of our rights when we asked government to control
our neighbors for our benefit -- or simply looked the other way when others did
so."

"What government can do to our neighbor, it can -- and will -- do to us. Freedom is something that we must give to others if we wish it for ourselves."
It's been said we have three brains, one cobbled on top of the next. The stem is first, the reptilian brain; then the mammalian cerebellum; finally the over developed cerebral cortex.  They don't work together in awfully good harmony - hence ax murders, mobs, and socialism.

Changing commonly used words or wording so what is conveyed cannot possibly offend one other person or group of people; accomplished by using a lot more words to say what could be said in a lot fewer words, knowing that in 10 years, the words you presently use will no longer be acceptable.

W*#sified is the short word for 'Politically Correct'.

How about common courtesy?

Or didn't anyone else's parents encourage their children not to grow up to be a-holes? :lol

Finally, a joke...

I'm glad that humor always prevails on these boards.

I am not a politician, therefore I refuse to be "politically correct".  Look at it this way, if you call me an a-hole for it, odds are better than not that I won't be offended!
