AW might have even been worse in that 200 people made the leader board (or was it 100... 200 seems right) except it was soley based on points so the more you flew the more likely you were to be on it.

And yes, nothing's changed.  There were milkrunners then just as there are now.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

Early era??  The picture I posted was prime time AW2.  Early era was wireframe aircraft, pyramid mountains and solid blue sky with a round yellow sun :)

One of my squadies tracked down the article in question online.

You can read all about AW circa 1989 HERE (Jan 1990 Issue)

Hey Roberto...

Remember Carlos and his bunch, conquering the arena every day before any Bz or Cz logged in?

Not really anything that new in AH, when it comes to how people play.

How abouty -Pal, the pick and run dweeb?

Doc... I seem to remember some fun KI84 (you) and F4u (me) fites back then...unless my feeble brain is beginning to shrink.

There are some very interesting advices listed under tactics in that article:

3) Never join a fuzzball, er, dogfight

4) With flaps down you gain altitude in place of speed. Flaps up give you increased speed, but not as much altitude

5) Don't bother leading the target as you would if you were duckhunting

6) Avoid aces. You can examine other players' score. So, if they have high pilot rating, avoid them!

:D

There's a review of "Their Finest Hour" in that issue too. My first air combat sim :aok

AW had lasers for guns at that time, you did not lead.  And they had a hit bubble.

The Finest Hour review was probably why I bought it, although I think I bought it quite frequently.

TFH was one heck of a great game.  So was the Pacific one which came out about this same time with Midway as a feature.

Did you note the reviewer fell for the then "ALT F4" line. :lol   Some things never change.
