I was working up in the poconos, which is notorious for Timber Rattlesnakes. Given that, with all the construction noise, we only ever saw one.
Anyway, we show up for work one day, and start to get everything in order ready to lay more courses of CMU.
Just as I start to turn over a mortar bin, I hear a loud buzzing sound. Now, rattlesnakes don't make a baby rattle like noise you hear in the movies. They make a loud fast buzzing.
The momentum of the bin flipped it over, and I swear to GOD I floated. There was no less than 2 or 3 feet below the bottom of my shoes for a good 8 seconds.
As the bin got fully flipped over, there was no snake. I look over, and my father is cleaning off dried mortar from the tools on the Bricks, perfectly imitating the sound of a rattlesnack rattle. It was not intentional, just great comedic timing.
From then on for that day, I made sure to bang every hiding place 2-3 times before I flipped them over.
