Actually I checked last night. The Boston has a lousy bombload, only 2,000lbs. The KI-67s is 1,780 lbs so its almost the same. Even better in that it has a 8 100kg bombload option, "220 lbs".

Four 250 lb bombs or 4 500 lb bombs and one dual .303 top turret with a lot of blind spots. The thing is basically undefendable. The top turret has lousy rotation and gunnery views.

I myself have never once seen one in the air. I nominate the Boston as the ultimate "Hangar Queen".

Thread on dogfighting in the Boston. Apparently there are a few who can take on fighters pretty well after their eggs are gone.

The Boston rocks.  Fast, and has a great climb rate.  The reason You don't see them is because the thumb twitchers who never take them above 10K get killed alot in it, and they leave it alone.    The Boston is great if you take it to just below the cloud layer at 17K.  All the weed whackers are far below you, and can't get up to you before you drop your load on target.  If they do try to climb up to get you, they are slow and have no hope to catch you, also a shallow dive back to the closest base will extend your escape and put your pursuer in amongst friendly fighters before he can catch you.

Sheesh, people don't think about tactics anymore.  All the thumb twitching, weed whacking, squeeking, Quake players are down low.  It is the fastest way to get to the closest enemy base.  That EverCrack mentality they have, can work to your advantage, if you just think about how to get around their playing style.

I love taking Bostons into "meat grinders"  because it generally means that I can fly over their base with impunity at 17K and drop any target I want and get home unscathed.

Well to anyone who enjoys flying the thing, and has success with it, I you. I admit I have no experience in it. And I admit "speed" and "planning" are the two most important aspects of strategy in flying bombers. Its a big reason, the most important reason, I fly 26s and KI-67s. I fly them at 10,000' to 15,000' because I "want" to heat up the guns.

"Speed" brings the fight into the horizontal. And bomber sticks have no fear of the horizontal.

Ive taken Bostons up in the TA a few times. The lack of rotation and coverage of that top turret, as well as the puny cartridge, frankly, makes me nervous. I like big guns, being an American, and that top cannon of the KI makes me feel like Dirty Harry Callahan.

You are missing the point. Fly a Friday night Squad Op and see what some of these "hanger queens" can do with a historical match up.

Usually fly at full throttle rather than any sort of historical cruise setting, making them out to be much better than they were.

There is a reason Boston III squads were delighted to get Mosquito IVs, but from AH you'd hardly know why.

True but it's a little closer than MA match ups.
