Does anyone else have this crappy security program?
I mean, I guess it's not too crappy ~ it serves its intended purpose very well. Problem is that it also stops user functions, and I can't even uninstall the thing from my computer (I've tried).

That's pretty much my experience with any security / virus / firewall program. While it does ensure a good degree of safety, it does so at the expense of RAM and functionality.

I've gotten to the point where I can just feel what's happening to my computer. But then again, I'm a bit of a nerd.

Plenty of posts on computer security in here if you look, but my preference is to run no security programs and check the processes once a week or if it "feels slow".

Google anything you don't recognize, if it's malicious, track it down and delete it.

You should be able to delete it piece by piece. Maybe shut down the processes manually, then delete the .exe file?

Really? Haven't had any viruses in 3 years.

Just don't go to porn sites and click on everything that says "click here".

Automatic updaters and virus scan software do nothing but piss me off. Might not be the way to do it for everyone, but if you invest a tiny bit of time each week, you've got nothing to worry about.

Get Norman AV. Won't bug you much, and won't steal all your system resources. Their "sandbox" approach to finding harmful programs is revolutionary too.

Ah huh and I spose you think malware only comes from pornsites. And what qualifications do you have (technical) that allow you to identify malware so well?

Seriously, it appears you have plenty of experience in this area, and I'm not trying to be a smartarse...are there any programs out there that do not have an autoupdater process running in the background or on start up and do not give me false positives?

If there is I'll buy it, if not, I prefer the possibility of a problem to the continual problem of notifications and auto updates. Nothing pisses me off more than when I'm doing some graphics intensive work (for publishing) and there's an update downloading in the background, or the program starts scanning my hard drive. There is never a convenient time to schedule it...I work different hours everyday.

Is there a program would you recommend (free or 30 day trial) I can install and easily uninstall that I can check my system with? I'll eat my hat if it finds anything, if it doesn't, then I'd say my 'system' is working?
