i know i will receive lotsof advise and there will be lots of contradicting opinions but here it goes i am about to purchase a headset after several months of "trying out the game" and was looking for suggestions. i am interested in keeping the price around $40-$50, around the ears, and USB. any help would be appreciated.

I've been using altec lansing headsets for years - they're cheap and they don't shatter (too often) when they come into contact with a wall or floor at a high velocity

The earphones and mic work well enough in AH too.

nah, when someone tries to HO me I generally don't have a hard time avoiding it if I'm in a machine gun only ride, or killing him before he kills me if I'm in a cannon armed ride...

Got a pair of no name headphones/mic setup at radio shack for 19.99. It works.

Is there any specific model that you prefer. I went to their website and found several I thought would work well.

The one I have right now is model # AHS322 and it's worked well. The earphones and mic are pretty good.

RadioShack is the only way I'll go from now on. Have had my current set going on two years now, it's past due to start breaking wires but keeps on going. Spent hundreds on the expensive ones before seeing a recommendation in here. Price, performance and durability, great mic pickup as well as sound, plugs directly into your sound card ports.

They don't use USB obviously which also saves cpu cycles.

logitech cheapo "internet headset" here, cost £12. sounds fine and best its got a really long cable so I can hide that smurfy PC box away

not sure about the mic quality - you'll have to ask my squaddies.

not quite as important now that I have found speaker and mic jacks on front of tower

they were hidden

im using the logitech usb headset, sounds are clearer and teh price at walmart was about 29.99. They are USB with noise cancelling mic and are very comfotable. best part is even though they are total over ear, they have vents so u can hear outside world (IF YOU DONT HAVE VOLUME UP TOO LOUD) and believe me it doesnt take much..

I've went threw several headsets and the ones I have now are bt far the ones I like the most. Thier usb logitech's. Think I paid around $50 for them at circuit city.

Have these ones now, not usb but a very good set. I actually prefer them to my old logitech usb set (which ended up breaking about a month or 2 ago)

There are a lot of headsets out there but if you are willing to spend 30-60 bucks for a pair then you probably won't be getting anything bad. Personally I like to keep with the name brands of Logitech, Plantronics, etc...but I know others would disagree...thats just me though.

I have had cheaper pairs before and honestly the quality was not that good, it is better to spend a little extra dough and get a 30-60 pair in my opinion. If you get the cheaper ones you might end up like me and just end up replacing them constantly by other 10-15 dollar pairs.

If you have a non-big-company computer, they may not work.

If you have speakers plugged into the back at the same time, you'll get left side sound from the speakers and right side from the headphones, or vice-versa.
