guys,
been thru this before......people like Intel , People like AMD........
Intel seems to supposedly run cooler, Intel seems to supposedly run faster, then their are some who say the exact same for AMD..........there are fanboi's on each side of the fence. and there are test and claims that would make each side win out over the other.......
I like the concept of the 1 GIG videocard, and the AMD 6000 X@ AMD chip being able to reach 3.4 ghz with little effort.......... AMD6400 X2 is maxed out , lil room to do anything and cost more
the 24" monitor ( woot woot ) which is strongly needed for my work since my days and nights consist of sketching Mechanical / Plumbing / Structural Blue Prints along with multitude of other things
and the ability to use DirectX 10 in the future.......and possibility of adding an additional 1 gig vidcard if a desire arises...which who knows what might come down the pike......
only from experience here - using AMD processor computers have always been of better response for me than the INTELs....... oh yeah and DELLs are crappy..... company only buys DELL at work because of the kickback and discounts thru the National HVAC program ( just like our stinking NEXTEL phones that work 1/4 of the time )
as for the cost of this...alot of it is OVERKILL extra storage drives, hard drives, when a person could just grab a 500 gig HD and partition it to death...... but I want the ability to Hot Swap, and the ability to run both XPpro and Vista Ultimate ( still researching the Vista concept since it is new to me )
but I have built 5 stinking computers since this old crate I am using was put together from loaner parts from my squadmate Whels roughly 4 years ago in which it was mostly all used parts then.......I owe myself a new Computer, everyone else in the house or in the Family ( Mom / Dad included, plus a few in laws etc ) have gotten a new computer or one built by me for them.........so this is my turn.........
if you drop the vidcard and Monitor you find this thing to be not that all to expensive........
I fully understand the Core 2 Duo concept, I thought long and hard about going in that direction.....I know the ones our office just upgraded to are loaded down with GUNK by DELL, oue IT tech supposedly came in and did a good wipe up, the only way for me to get any 1/2 decent performance from my Office Desktop PC is to cancel out the server connection and work on files offline, but it is still slow, the chip in my new Office Desktop is an E6550 with 2 gig ram and 256 meg vid card....and its slower than a plants leaf wilting......
and our McAffee Business suite software only makes matters worse......is a great product, but Boss had IT tech give me admin privs to all my departments PC's so I could go in and cancel stuff , delete junk, and try to max them out..........no offense but I swear sometimes I think certian IT tech / computer companys throw lil monkey wrenches in to peoples work servers , so they can come back once or twice a week for service calls ( read as to make money )
sorry for the long rant
appreciate any views / comments...........OZZ if I did add another vidcard down the road, I would prob have to upgrade PSU to one that could handle Dual !gig cards with 2 6pin and 2 8pin PCIE vidcard plugs ( prob 800watt or higher too )
