I think the challenger looks cool but... I'd only buy it for nostalgic reasons. As folks have pointed out, you can get more performance for your buck out of other vehicles.

Ever notice how the Mustang fans always .. and I mean *always* .. start listing the add-ons they have to add before takin on a stock <insert any other fairly decent ride here>

They just dont seem to 'get' that <any fairly decent ride> can get similar add-ons.

So ya .. dual turbo that stang.
Better get the methanol injection with it too.
And the Nitrous.
That black vette, over there -points- ..has it.
He's pushin just past 1khp, and .. well .. it's a Vette.
Not even a hood scoop showin.
No stickers.
Wider tires in back is not much of a clue.

He *will* frik-kin destroy a Mustang.

-GE -just sayin- (there's at least two I know of here in town ..heck one's for sale, guys askin 50k)

He was comparing Corvettes and Mustangs though.  My step dad's 98 Z28 got off the line pretty well even with the extra 500 lbs of passengers.  Ricers never had a chance.

Why compare a stock 2 seat supposed super car to a 4 seat pony car. Lets match it up to say a viper and the ford GT. Then we can talk bolt-ons.

Funny.   From 0-55mph, my former 83 Jeep CJ7 with a stock 72 AMC 304 could take all comers, off the line.    Why?   a Detroit Locker and 4:27 gears.    It also had 33" BFGoodrich Mud Terrains on it.    I miss it.    Nothing like seeing a pimple popping squeaker thinking "How in the hell?" at the next red light.

For about $8000 you can get a 2001 camaro Z28 or Firebird with 320ish hp, and it'll blow the doors off of any mustang under $40,000.

The $32,000 you save will go a long way towards cutting off the mullet and making you feel good about giving the finger to any mustang fanbois :)

I wanted a mustang until I saw how badly the post-1998 f-bodies beat them on the track.

Oh yea, I'm beating a dead horse but holy cow those mustangs and other retro boats suck.  Every time someone says "yea buy a mustang!" I can't help point out that my '98 f-body with 125k miles STILL beats any production stang on the track.

Just look at any SCCA solo2 nationals results in F-Stock class.  The mustangs are either non-existant or get their butts kicked by cars built 8-14 years ago.  Even the old LT1 F-body camaros beat the stangs on the track.  That's pitiful.  And the new round of retro musclecars are even worse.

Adding insult to injury, my TA gets a solid 28 mpg on the highway and 22mpg around town, without driving particularly carefully.  Vettes without the optional short rear end gears will get about the same mileage.

I was at our local SCCA meet this last Sunday and was talking to my buddy Alan, the current ESP class champ.  He runs a '98 Trans Am and last year some guy with a brand-spanking new Shelby Mustang made Alan his target for the year.  At every meet Alan beat him soundly and it really upset the Shelby owner to no end.  '98 Trans Am > '08 Shelby Mustang.  Funny stuff.

A Shelby? no wonder he lost at track race...

He should trade that Shelby for Rousch to get modern suspension.

And what kind of suspension do you think a '98 Trans Am has?

Not officially they haven't.  Rumor is sometime in 2011 they will pull the plug on it.

Because I constantly run into Mustang drivers who want to 'show me' just how slow their Stang really is.
Then they go into 'bolt-on' mode ..alla neat stuff they can do to go faster than a stock Vette.
Not realizing that .. well .. bolt ons are available for the Vette too.

(club member had a run in with one of the Roush toys the other day .. -shakes head- .. the Stang just had no idea.. that lil Atomic Orange coupe he picked on is runnin about 7lbs of boost on a D1SC unit (supercharger for those who dont know) .. ROFL ..poor guy probably couldnt figure out why that 'stock' lookin Vette pulled his chain so badly.)

Well, leave it to a Mustang driver not to be able to even hear a supercharger.
