71st Squadron "C" flight...
« on: December 10, 2007, 01:36:04 PM »
We (71st) have been bumping against the 64 person cap off and on for a while now. We just filled up again over the weekend and the decision was made that its time to add a 3rd "flight"....

Somehow I got elected, drafted coherced into being chief bottle washer for the new "squad". Actually I'm honored and glad to help, the 71st has been a great home for me (and obivously a bunch of others) and I'll help the guys out however possible. 1st and formost we are 1 squad under three flights (now) do to size, however we are defined by vox 171 not the particular "flight"...since its hard to say exactly what we are I'll try and tell you what we're not....

1) We are not defined by any plane. While technically a "spitfire" squad we fly every plane and if you browse thru the various "best of" threads you'll find multiple 71st pilots mentioned in multiple rides. We've got a number of guys who are highly regarded in various planes and we fly them all.

2) We are not defined by tactics, we dont have set rules to fly by or set "wingman" styles. Again however some of us are often noted as being among the toughest "wingies" to run up against...

3) We dont run missions, but you'll often find the 71st in the thick of the action. We dont roll bases but we do ride to the sound of the guns. As a general rule if we dont see "red" we dont go...

4) We dont have a "squad night". We're a 24/7 operation and its rare that we dont have somebody up. During peak times we often have double digit numbers and can hit 20+ at any time. As a general rule sweeps are adlib and organized by anyone of a number of experienced sticks with "lead" rotating among squadies on line based on whatever seems like fun at the time.

If your looking for a good bunch of guys who are more interested in who you are then how "good" you are feel free to tune to Vox 171 {knight} and fly a few weeks with us...

hehe, 71 slowly taking over AH....

seriously though, if anyone is looking for a laidback fighter squad (we do some bomber and GV stuff but we're mainly furballer dweebs), where fun is to be had around the clock, but some good serious squad missions from time to time, and a great bunch of guys to hang about with, then perhaps we're for you.

just an added bonus that the squad contains some of the best pilots and teachers in the game, and that the squad is well renowned for being very good wingmen ;)

skill levels aside though, we take pretty much anyone as long as potential members are reasonably (lol, depends on how you define reasonably) mature, and have a good sense of humour.

just hop on knights ch 171 and say hi, fly with us a bit and see how you like us :)

Don't let him fool ya, we've got quite a few bomber dweebs and tank dweebs too! Why, I recall several GV-type non-missions I never would have participated in without this squad. There are also enough bomber pilots to satisfy the need to blow crap up as well.

EDIT: Want to know what it's like to wing with us? Check out the link in my sig. Several folks have said it's spot-on.

Krusty,

Thats really the "problem" isnt it. We're not "GVers" but we're good at it. We dont "do bombers" but we actually do....very well. How do you describe us?

Where else will you find a bunch where the CO or rest of the "senior brain trust" can be found pulling "rank and file" duty at any time if that what needs to get done. Redtop was doing low level lanc runs while we were lugging ords in 110's over the weekend to support another groups "squad op". Its funny that we seem to view all of the knights as "our squad" if the actions good and a helping hand is needed...

At the same we run some of the best fighter sweeps in the game....

Well if we're not "just" furball dweebs, and we're not "just" bomber dweebs and we're not "just" GV dweebs, we need to remove the classification in that phrase and admit that we're just plain old "dweebs" :D

All kidding aside what Humble/Snaphook said in the first post is spot on.

As CO of this squad I am still amazed at how these guys can just all of the sudden be in 1 spot ready to go in no time. Sometimes we're spread out all over a map. 2 or 3 here 3 or 4 there a couple someplace else all doing something totally differant and having FUN.

That IS 71 sqd.

I don't have rules other than HAVE FUN...Be as respectful as possible on country channel and 200 as you can. (Knowing each of us will have a time when our tempers will flare. Myself included) But we TRY our best to be nice and cordial to all.

I've had soe PM's asking to join and just didn't have room at the time. So I gave this ALOT of thought and we're gonna give it a try.

IF your into the fun aspects of the game. Joking , flying , landing a few kills or dieing alot we may be what you want. The ORDERS thing and regimented squad is not us. SO if you need that just pass us on by.:aok

Look up RedTop...SteffK...BatfinkV... ..Snaphook.....or ANY of the 71 guys if your interested...or PM me here and I'll get back to you soon.

Cheers

Hello everyone.  I've just recently dropped out of my former squad because I never flew with any of them.  Not their fault.  My time schedule is pretty erratic and I tend to fly a few days a week.

So, if you don't mind, I'd like  to drop in on vox 171 some time this week to say hi.  I've flown with a few of the 71 squad in the past and look forward to winging with you again.
