Would someone be willing to help me trim.. a f4u-1c ...  Do i trim for slow flight or fast.. or fly with CT off and keep trimming the whole flight. As u might tell from post im pretty much lost on CT. How do I use it most effectively.

Thank You.

People like to sometimes admit CT is for noobs.

Really, it's not. It trims the plane for you automatically so that you can handle best at all speeds.

Most only use manual trim to pull out of dives that have otherwise locked up the aircraft's elevators. When I land full flaps in my Corsair, I like to trim a little below neutral on my elevators and sometimes, on the rudder if it's that whack. This makes sure my nose doesn't pitch up to much. Allows me to handle landings better.

During combat, most will leave combat trim alone.

Similar to Pappy, I rarely use Manual Trim. I'll use it when I need to, and the times I need to use manual are few and far between. Although combat trim may knock a tad bit off of your climb/turn rate than could be done on manual, it's not enough to make much of a difference. Combat Trim does it all for you so you can sit back and enjoy the flight... Free peanuts?

need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the

I have a button set so I can turn on and turn off CT.

I fly with it set to off.  I only turn it on when my plane gets way out of trim during a flight then I turn it off.

CT can give you trouble during hard maneuvers and low speed maneuvers.

It TENDS to try to LEVEL the plane out some.........

this can create a problem in certain situations.

IIRC that has ALWAYS been the case in AH?

Seeing as you said you were a bit confused on CT I'll start at the beginning.....

CT automatically trims your plane. As your speed increases it will continuously retrim the plane for you. This is were you can run into trouble. It also trims as you slow. One the planes that have a big problem is the P38. With the counter rotating props it is very easy to get that bird very slow at the top of a loop to sucker in a bad guy.

With CT on as you come over the top of your loops CT will try to trim your plane out, and you will basically get stuck in the air. So having a button on your stick can help avoid this type of trouble.

Most people I believe fly with CT on and don't mess with it. Some have it on and flip it off in fights to try and help like in the about story. Others have it off, and just flip it on for a second then back off. This "trims" your plane for the speed you run when you do it, in stead of going thru each trim control.

Then there are the hard core that never touch CT and do it all manually. These guys believe that trim really helps them in a fight, by giving them "that little extra something" to win the fight.

Your mileage may vary.  :D

I use the Combat Trim when in normal flight.

I set a hat switch on my CH throttle that I flip on & off in basic maneuvers.

If I am in a dogfight I will turn CT off & use my manual aileron & elevator trim to get a better angle.

FireDrgn, are you still thinking of joining my squad? :) ;)
