English is the most important subject you will learn at school. No matter how smart you are in other areas if you can't effectively communicate your ideas you won't be heard.
Well said! Splitatom, when you get to the working world people will have a knee-jerk reaction if you cannot write effectively and clearly. For example, if I see a resume with any spelling or grammatical mistakes, they don't get an interview. I also see plenty of people with degrees in biology, chemistry, or some other science, who cannot write worth a damn because they never thought it was important--and it hurts them professionally.
