I'd just like to get ipodhelper.exe turned off. I have itunes, but not an ipod, and don't WANT an ipod, and don't need an ipodhelper program. Sort of like that stupid HPzip12.exe program HP installed that I cannot turn off.

Ignore the FUD above.  There is not really a problem unless you're trying to move music from the ipod back onto another computer.

The real problem is that it's a confusing error/warning message.

What you need to do is turn off automatically synchronization.  You can drop music from any itunes installation onto the ipod, but you cannot sync with more than one installation.  If you mess this up, you can lose everything on the ipod.

It helps to tell itunes to NOT manage or organize your music as well, since that can help you archive your music folders if you keep them organized yourself.

But there is nothing keeping you from dragging/dropping music from any itunes library into an ipod.  You just can't synchronize the ipod music back with itunes.  So turn off automatic synchronization (not sure exactly what the option is called or what menu it's in) and you'll be fine.

I'm sorry, I did read it.   With any other mp3 player, the above "Requirements for compatibility" aren't necessary.   Also, myself spending $400 for something to play semi-quality music is something I don't need.    If I desire to listen to music, I'll listen to it through my KEF's.  

Thanks for the attempted burn though.

I bought a 4gb RCA brand MP3 player, it works flawlessly. Plus you just copy/paste songs from your computer into the mp3 player, dont even need to run software for it. The PC sees it just like a usb jump drive.

The Ipod is not junk, just the firmware.  I swapped my Ipod nano 1st gen's os with the one HERE
and basically I can dual boot the os.  Plus it has its own video player (it is kind of buggy though). you can manually put the songs on there and you wont have to worry about Itunes telling you "NO that isnt allowed, Now please go and delete it"

The people that have problems with non-iPod systems are simply ignorant in their operation 90% of the time. Erika had a Creative Zen for a long time, until she finally broke it with the usual girl treatment towards valuables.

That said, I'll never own an iPod. Hell, I listen to so little music, I use my PSP.

UNLESS you authorize another computer to play that song as well.  You can only have a song authorized on five different computers.  

The issue with CAV getting his uncles songs on the IPOD is exactly that.  The songs were proabaly only authorized on that computer.  To use those songs on another machine, those songs would have to be copied to the new computer and then that computer would have to be authorized to play those songs by logging in as the other person who originally downloaded those songs.

I spend up to 4 hours a day in an underground, with Koss plugs in my ears, reading books and (in the evening) drinking beer.

I lost my player last week, it was an ages-old 512Mb Transcend junk. Got myself a 4Gb Digma instead, payed $66. Trying to get used to a weired interface, but the sound is mush better then I expected.

I had a Creative MP3 player... it physically broke, poor construction. My iPod Nano is very nice. And I must say, I like iTunes better than WMP. But thats just me.

It may, never tried it though. Whenever I download music I just plug in my iPod and iTunes automatically syncs.

You can use an Ipod as a flash drive/external hard drive by checking "enable disk use' in Itunes.

riiiiiight. Windows Vista is built around DRM. Napster hates Apple, and is NOT compatible with iPods (but is with Creative Zen, etc), and they put DRM into all their files. Everybody puts DRM into their music now. It's just the way it is.

So, strip the DRM you nubs!

I own no music CDs, at all. I do not get my music from torrents or any illegal method. I've paid a grand total of $20 at the iTunes store in the past year. Yet, I have 5000 mp3s, loaded into 3 different iPods, and copied to my parents various non-apple mp3 players (okay that part might be illegal... shhh! don't tell the RIAA!)
