I've been reading my Shaw at work but I have my Microsoft SQL 7.0 Admin Book on top of it in case some unexpected Directors show up!

Good book so far...  I'm still haveing a hard time applying all the knowledge to my flights in the arena.  I tend to forget what I'm supposed to do in some situations.

Silly silly people! You're not supposed to read this book; its contents are irrelevant! It's size and weight have been designed for throwing. You know, at wife, kids, pets, etc. when they come in your room while doing intense ACM. Haven't you ever wondered why it's still hardcover after all these years? I keep mine to the left of my throttle with the end jutting two inches over the edge of the table. You know, for minimum response time. I recommend getting the multi-volume set for large families.

Honey, what would you like for…..THWAP!
Daddy, daddy, take us to….THWAP, THWAP!

I've been toying with the idea of starting a training arena on the proper use of this indispensable tome. Perhaps, if there's enough demand for it.

Ahh yes, Shaw. Went over to bookshelf and grabbed my copy to look at it for about the billionth time......The "osmosis" theory of learning doesn't apply to my copy. Maybe it would if it was a paperback?

It's a great read nonetheless. I was fortunate enough to have met Mr. Shaw at an AW convention a few years back. We got to talking about aviation in general and ended up talking about my fear of flying.....He laughed at me and signed my copy: "get over that fear of flying!"
 Check six!

 Robert Shaw
 "Mouse"

I wanted to give him a ride in my car so I could sign his tee-shirt with: "get over that fear of driving with a lunatic!"

A very nice, friendly fellow he is.

I for one would love to hear Mr Shaw's impressions on Aces High.
I'd be very surprised if he hadn't at least flown it a few times during the closed or open beta.

MR. Shaw is working with the ppl at kesmai right now on the AW V. i also believe that he talked with hitech at the awcon99 about the game. 15 minutes later we were looking
at aces hi on the computer there.

Robert, this is true!  I personally observed Mr Shaw, on Sharkbaits computer, take off, and fly the 51.....I recall.  He was testing the -what I call -  level indicator (bubble) inverted to test its accuracy.  His comment was "it seems right"  and he commenced to auger into a spin and crashed!    I will never forget it!  I didn't know it was AH until I got home, and saw a link on the Beta.  If ya notice, SharkBait is mentioned on the game startup screen.

Hmmm. We have a couple of misconceptions going on here at the same time. Robert Shaw, who wrote the book that this thread was about, is not the same guy as  Matt Shaw who is the genius behind Fighter Duel and now works for Kesmai.
Robert Shaw aka "Mouse is an older gent of a smaller statute and is running a hair deficit - like I am. But I'm not of a small statute in the least    Matt is a young guy. 20's...30's at most and is now employed by Kesmai after Fighter Duel II went belly up and he is working on AW:V as well as tweaking AW3.
But! What you saw was NOT Aces High at the AW 1999 CON but what would have been several aircraft included in Fighter Duel II had it been developed. I was also looking on as Matt showed it off to a bunch of folks, one of whom was HiTech, on Sharkbaits PC.  I'd initially though HiTech WAS showing off an alpha of Aces High. And after I'd kidded him in the hospitality suite when I asked him if he had brought something along to show of Aces High.
I can say that I was *mighty* impressed with the details and features Matt was implementing for Fighter Duel II.  I particularly liked the accurate raising and lowering of the F6F landing gear for some reason
But that was FD II and not AH.

I only saw the FD II demo Matt had running. I would have loved to have had a sneak preview of AH then. Well. I had a misconception myself it seems. Thanks for the
post HiTech
