The Ö,Ä,Ü,ß letters

Furball, e.g. in Finnish there is a definite difference between "väärä" (eng. wrong) and "vaara" (eng. danger). The lack of proper characters simply causes misunderstandings.

What would be the threat of allowing proper use of each persons own keyboards? You know, we DO already have all these characters on our keyboards, they just in some cases (in the game) give completely different results than what is printed on them.

You know, of course, the second the characters are in, the constant cries of:

1) "Why can't I put those in my game ID??"

2) "Why isn't MY language supported??"

and

3) "How do I unlock these keys? They told me AltF4 but it's not working!"

will never end, ever ever ever.

The second it's in game folks won't stop til it's in the names, then they won't stop til THEIR nationalities individual letters are all included. soon we've got a 2,000-letter alphabet! Chaos!

Lets remove Q, W, F, G, Z, X, C and B alltogether. We can manage quite ok without them! :p

It is very hard to understand the negative crowd in many wislist topics. The second someone asks for something, this crowd crawls in and makes tens of excuses why the wish is bad or useless.

The oldest and most idiotic "reason" is "if you give this then they would ask more and more." SO WHAT.. let people ask for anything.
When you go out to your boss to ask a raise, do you expect him to answer with same logic: "No I cannot give you anything, because then you would only come back next day asking for more!"

When there are CLEAR reasons why some suggestion would cause difficulties, state THEM, but not when you only speculate that this MIGHT lead into some difficulties if this this and that happened and more was given... We can anytime speculate that granting any AH related wish may make some dictator mad in some country and start a nuclear war :eek:

What would be so difficult in a simple HTC statement= "Call signs can include only following characters...". Allowing the durned foreigners use their own keyboards in text radios and in game keyboard maps is NOT a threat to you. It does not promote terrorism or take you money or women.

Just like if more than 8 charactes would be allowed in call signs (suggested in another thread). It would NOT have to lead into giving more and more characters time after time. One could simply study current trunkated callsigns and check how many characters would be needed to type out most of them. Then just draw a line somewhere. 8 character obviously come from DOS relic and not from any other reason.

Hi Blauk, i see, but in AH all messages should be made in the English language (IIRC), just like the public areas of the forum.

What i was getting at, if you allow special characters from one language other than English - where does it stop? Turkish, Greek, Russian, Chinese, Japanese?  I may be wrong, but it seems like a lot of unnecessary work when it runs fine as it is?

Unless they can just import the fonts and it be done immediately, which may be the case - i have no idea.
I am not ashamed to confess that I am ignorant of what I do not know.

They are, as well as "ü".

Examples:

Jäger = Fighter
Kühler = Radiator

English equivalent is oe, ae, ue, and ss.

Those are easy.

Hard is trying to use romanized non Latin alphabets. German still uses latin alphabet.

It looks like "¨¹"on one comp and  like "¡í" on the other.
May be we were talking about dufferent signs.

It is complicated :)

Even on this board all these characters may appear different on different computers and browsers depending on the character encoding set used.

These have been a "pita" for many years in televised sports events and it seems they are not much used anymore. Or has anyone heard of one Kimi Raeikkoenen lately? :)  .. they just rape it into Raikkonen

Those "equivalents" make the real words often extremely garbled.

An example:
"Ääliö älä lyö, ööliä läikkyy" = "Aeaelioe aelae lyoe oeoeliae laeikkyy"
... hardly readable even to anyone who understands the original with the dots.

And the same in English for the sake of the forum rules. "You idiot dont hit, the beer will get spilled" :)
